Job Summary

The Transportation Business Line is actively seeking a highly talented National Practice Leader, Tunneling for immediate employment with flexible locations in the United States. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in the transportation industry and have a successful track record of major tunneling program management. The applicant will have extensive experience in marketing, developing, designing and managing tunnel projects, with emphasis in managing complex underground projects for transportation initiatives. The position will work in a matrix organization, with local transportation and operations staff, regional leadership, and national transportation business line executives to assist in winning and delivering new AECOM work with major tunneling components in the United States.

The National Practice Leader, Tunneling is responsible for business development and project delivery of tunnel projects located in North America, with a concentration in the Northwestern United States. Position requires candidate to be an industry leader recognized by key tunnel contractors and owners. The position will provide strategic plan and delivery on key client and program success; has broad program management impact. Prepares and delivers presentations on behalf and in support of the client’s program. Interacts with executive level government or public officials and/or executive level clients on significant program matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Effectively communicate with the public and with clients’ technical staff, management and governing boards

  • Work collaboratively with AECOM Transportation leadership team to ensure resources throughout the Tunnel Practice are being utilized on projects and pursuits

  • Initiate and maintain extensive contacts with key officials of other organizations

  • Work with colleagues to deliver intelligent solutions that ensure quality project delivery

  • Attend conferences and workshops to strengthen existing client relationships and establish new relationships; obtain an understanding of emerging technologies and market drivers

  • Maintain a high local and regional profile

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline

  • 15+ years progressive experience in design, construction and project management of tunnel structures

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), or the ability to obtain

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage and collaborate across geographically disbursed teams

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Valid Driver’s License required

  • Demonstrated experience in the design of tunnel excavation and support systems for transportation projects

  • Comprehensive knowledge of trenchless technology and tunneling methods

  • Understanding of geotechnical condition assessment and documentation for ground tunneling

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively engaged with the tunnel design and construction professional community

  • Proven track record with large client program management, pursuit execution, and multidisciplinary team management

  • Experience in client prepositioning activities, team (internal and external partners) and proposal development

  • Familiarity with local and federal funding and project development requirements

  • Background in Design-Build or Public-Private Partnership delivery methods on major tunneling projects, including funding options and negotiations for end-client
