Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Mid-Level Landscape Designer/Urban Designer for immediate employment in the New York City Landscape Architecture + Urban Design Studio. ­The candidate will be focused on resiliency-related urban design and green infrastructure projects at both city-wide and region scales. ­These projects require an ability to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and are focused on design-lead engineering solutions.

In collaboration with design studio leadership, the candidate will work closely with project design teams and project landscape architects, managers and staff to design and assist in the execution of projects within the New York City metropolitan area, nationally and internationally. ­Projects in the studio are design-driven and involve close collaboration with engineers, planners, cost estimators, and other technical consultants.

The Landscape Architecture and Urban Design portfolio in the New York City studio includes a broad range of urban-based, multidisciplinary public realm projects, such as resiliency and green infrastructure, plazas, streetscapes, parks, waterfronts, infrastructure, urban design plans, master-planning, and ecological restoration.­

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform technical design & planning work of studio

  • Prepare construction documents and specifications, cost estimates, and hand and computer drawings

  • Project management and coordination

  • Participate at client and agency meetings

  • Assist in mentoring and developing the skills of landscape architecture staff

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or Planning

  • 3+ years of professional experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of strategic green infrastructure plans, integrated watershed management plans, or similar­

  • Demonstrated production and digital rendering experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino is required

  • Proficiency and passion for creating compelling open space design, with an ability to develop the work through the technical design phases

  • Experience preparing construction documents

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Ability to effectively manage time and self-edit work­

  • Someone who is passionate about what they do and about building better cities

  • Possesses the skills to generate exceptional two dimensional and three dimensional design graphics

  • Possess strong verbal, written and graphic communication skills

  • Strong organizational ability to self-edit work

Preferred Qualifications

  • LEED BD+C certification and/or experience implementing SITES framework­

  • Experience in Microstation, Grasshopper, Revit, ArcGIS, and other computer applications is highly desired

  • Strong knowledge/interest in plant materials
