Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Project Accountant in the New York, NY office. The Project Accountant is responsible for financial and accounting administration on a portfolio of DCS projects in our region. The Finance & Accounting (F&A) function at AECOM serves as a strategic decision-making partner to the Design and Construction Services (DCS) Group within the New York Metro business unit. F&A helps drive business performance by providing financial planning and analysis, accounting, tax, audit, treasury, external financial reporting, investor relations and management reporting. The Project Accountant is responsible for financial and accounting administration on a portfolio of DCS projects in the New York region.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide financial oversight and support on a moderate risk, moderate volume portfolio with multiple projects

  • Engage in regular meetings with project managers and/or project delivery teams on the status of projects

  • Participate in project review preparation, execution, and follow up

  • Assist Project Manager regularly with project setup, project monitoring, system updating and closeout

  • Ensure all incurred costs are reflected accurately and in a timely manner on the project

  • Assist project manager with the preparation and update of the EAC (Estimate at completion) for all active projects

  • Ensure that financial reporting for pending change orders are reflected correctly in system

  • Ensure that the current budget reflects approved as‐sold contract margin plus all client approved changes

  • Work proactively with project managers to monitor and correct project financial issues

  • Perform project analysis and prepare reports upon request for management review

  • Understand month end events to ensure they are prepared completely and processed accurately and timely

  • Assist Project Accounting Manager with internal and external audit support as required

  • Follows established procedures in performing accounting duties of limited scope and complexity requiring professional knowledge of accounting theory and principles

  • Displays knowledge and ability to apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related accounting tasks

  • Compiles information for posting to the general ledger; assist in the preparation of invoices.

  • Other duties assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree majoring in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, high-proficiency with Excel

  • Excellent communicator including the desire to ask questions and learn from co-workers

  • Ability to prioritize tasks with a commitment to completing tasks with urgency and within established deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

The F&A team prides itself in providing professional, accurate and actionable analysis, collaborating effectively with others, and taking ownership of our work; a self-starting attitude that exemplifies those qualities is a plus. Other useful qualifications include:

  • An understanding of Percentage of Completion (PoC) method of revenue recognition

  • Prior internship experience in a related field or industry
