Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly talented Electrical Engineer to work in the New Orleans, LA office. This position is contingent upon contract award with an anticipated hire date in August 2017.

Position Description or Typical Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Supervising Discipline Engineer, interacts with other disciplines, project support groups, subcontractors, vendors and client as appropriate on an assigned project. Performs engineering calculations, prepares specifications, performs analyses, witness testing, issues reports and maintains related data. Primary focus is on electrical systems, and involves the development of electrical drawings and documentation for the energy, oil, gas and petrochemical industry projects.

Under minimal direction, completes engineering assignments of advanced complexity. Comprehensive understanding of Electrical discipline and basic understanding of other disciplines. Effectively maintains liaison with electrical engineering and design staff. Fully versed with the preparation and execution of project scope in the electrical discipline. Plans and schedules engineering efforts associated with assigned project. Support the development of electrical project engineering budgets. Advises the Supervising Discipline Engineer about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems. Keeps proper engineering files and records. Interface with electrical staff, other disciplines, vendors, contractors and clients. Participates in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). Work with project Lead Designer to provide guidance to project design personnel to effectively produce detailed electrical design drawings, including electrical equipment physical layouts, electrical installation details, electrical equipment layout, electrical cable design, motor schematics. Perform design quality review to ensure quality and consistency of drawings is being met per the Quality Procedures. Participate in on site installation and start up and commissioning activities, as required, to assist field personnel in systems checkout and commissioning, including coordinating with the control system suppliers and coordinating resolution to problems with other disciplines.

The successful candidate will:

Develop and check one-line diagrams, schematic and wiring diagrams.

Generate specifications for electrical transformers, cables, bus work and other electrical/substation equipment

Have familiarity with power system study programs such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a 4-year accredited university.

Experience:

  • 3 years of electrical engineering experience, involving the engineering and design of complex electrical systems for industrial plant design projects.

  • Must be capable of using design software, models, etc. to solve complex issues with direction from senior staff.

  • Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or ability to obtain one

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen

  • Must be able to obtain Personal Identification Verification (PIV) which complies with Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD‐12.)

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Requirements:

  • 5 years of electrical engineering experience, involving the engineering and design of complex electrical systems for industrial plant design projects.

  • FE (EIT) Certificate

  • Previous experience working on Oil & Gas, Power and/or Petrochemical industry projects

  • Experience using SmartPlant Electrical CAD Software

  • Experience performing engineering calculations

  • Generate specifications for electrical transformers, cables, bus work and other electrical/substation equipment

  • Have familiarity with power system study programs such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
