Job Summary

The Power-Industrial Business Unit Lead will lead the Raleigh office Power & Industrial team, serve as business development leader for Power projects in mid to eastern North Carolina and manage the operation of the Power & Industrial Business Unit in Raleigh. Incumbent is expected to take part in sales and marketing leadership, project management and client management for all Power & Industrial projects. The Power & Industrial business unit focuses on work with major utility, industrial, high tech, land development and natural gas clients. Our primary focus in on the coal ash, electric transmission, natural gas pipeline, data centers and light/heavy industrial design.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Managing all aspects of power and industrial business development, operations and engineering for a similar size power or industrial Business Unit. This includes hiring and managing staff, budgets, and project technical development through preparation of final construction drawings. Provide oversight to ensure consistent product quality and profitability of operation

  • Coordinating with other business unit leaders in Charlotte, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio in an effort to share resources, utilize technical strengths, ensure independent reviews of all deliverables, and identify key project opportunities as early as possible

  • Managing the financial performance of projects working with project managers and senior managers, including meeting monthly and annual performance goals for the Raleigh business unit

  • Identifying, pursuing and winning profitable projects

  • Meeting or exceeding predetermined operational metrics and business development targets

  • Leading proposal preparation and making presentations to potential large and complex clients

  • Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships

  • Providing mentoring and technical expertise to employees

  • Leading multi-disciplinary projects as Senior Project Manager or Principal

  • Ensuring the delivery of quality professional services and deliverables by the transportation team

  • Maintaining a high local and regional profile

  • Identifying market needs and trends

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 8+ years of experience as Project Manager and / or Group Leader with sales, financial, engineering, design, project management and client management responsibility on large power or industrial design and construction projects

  • Professional Engineer in North Carolina or ability to obtain within 6 months

  • Business development experience and a proven track record with large account management and complex engineering / technical sales

  • Extensive experience preparing proposals and conducting presentations

  • People management experience, including managing an office and/or large projects

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognized Business Development leader in the industry

  • Leadership in growing the power or industrial business in past positions

  • Strategic Planning experience in the engineering field

  • Experience serving as mentor and trainer of engineering staff

  • 15+ years' experience preferred
