Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Director of Delivery for immediate employment at a client site in the LA Metro area. The Director of Program Delivery plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and reports performance of Program design and construction project management professionals. As a member of senior management, the Director of Program Delivery provides execution and technical leadership to ensure that the Program’s everyday execution activities run smoothly; sets parameters to judge how efficiently and effectively projects are progressing; and reviews execution procedures for continuous improvement to achieve operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable delivering on time, on budget 20 to 40 projects simultaneously, ranging in design & construction value from $2M to $100M each

  • Develops, establishes, and administers project execution best practices, tools and SOP’s for execution management and reporting

  • Coordinates program activities with appropriate senior client management at District, Project Management Office and all appropriate State and local agencies

  • Develops and delivers management reports for overall progress, scheduling, cost control and staffing relative to design & construction project delivery schedules

  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.

  • Assess performance of site specific design and construction project teams and adherence to SOPs and legal requirements

  • Reviews recommended actions in resolving disputes relative to construction projects

  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas

  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.

  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work

  • Conduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements

DIRECT REPORTS

Functional Department Managers for design and construction management

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management required

  • 15+ years of experience managing capital projects within a large Capital Improvement program and familiarity with relevant California Public Codes

  • Experience with Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction/design processes

  • Knowledge of contract management and alternative delivery methods for capital projects

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required as this role will include interaction with clients and the general public

  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style and commitment to get the job done

  • Ability to effectively prioritize, effectively delegate responsibilities and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project planning and management skills, including development of metrics, goals and follow up reporting

  • Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Ability to challenge and debate issues of importance to the organization

  • Excellent computer skills and proficient Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience working on large bond school programs

  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the California State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors

  • Experience in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS)

  • 10+ years of experience in educational facility design or construction preferred
