Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and hardworking Permit Technician for immediate employment in the Moffett Field, CA office. The Permit Technician receives general supervision from the Program Manager and Deputy Chief Building Official and may receive technical and functional supervision from the Senior Building Inspector. The Permit Technician will work closely with the program Technical Review Manager(s) and other administrative staff to coordinate electronic reviews related to permit applications.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide information at the program counter, by telephone and through correspondence in response to relatively routine questions regarding building ordinances and codes, building permit application process and procedures

  • Assist the program applicants in completing applications and other necessary forms

  • Review applications upon receipt in preparation for processing

  • Accept documents for permit processing or other review

  • Ensure document coordination in preparation for plan check; civil, architectural, structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and other types of building permits and reviews

  • Process permits which require inter-departmental review or the services of Building Inspectors

  • Review, approve and issue less complicated, non-structural plan checks “over the counter"

  • Administer a field inspection scheduling system

  • Accept construction plans for appropriate departmental personnel to check;

  • Sort and route permit application packages

  • Prepare, catalog, and maintain files for records management system processing;

  • Utilize information systems as required in the processing, filing and managing records associated with applications, permits, and other systems as required

  • Lift or carry plans, boxes and assorted construction documents up to 25 50 pounds

  • Communicate technical requirements for multiple disciplines

  • Apply departmental policies and procedures affecting the acceptance and review of permit applications and commonly used building codes and ordinances

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma

  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Familiarity with construction, federal, state and local codes, ordinances and related terminology

  • Familiarity with processes and procedures associated with construction permits

  • Experience with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, electronic document control administration software (e.g. SharePoint) and web-based file repositories (e.g. Box)

  • Familiarity with Records management practices

  • ICBO Permit Technician Certification is highly preferred. ICBO Permit Technician Certification is required within the first six months of employment with the PVPSO

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree or completion of technical courses in building codes or inspection principles or techniques
