AECOM is seeking an Senior Electrical Engineer at our NASA Ames Research Center location in Moffett Field, CA. Our NASA Ames Research Center office focuses primarily on highly specialized mechanical, electrical and structural infrastructure engineering for large wind tunnels, thermal testing facilities and substations. We are looking for a person who wants to apply their passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive work environment.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Develops, designs low voltage (600V) and medium voltage (15kV) and high voltage (115kV) electrical distribution systems for building, industrial and utility facilities; design includes preparing design drawings (single line diagrams, plans, wiring diagrams, schematics, schedules and details) and preparing electrical specifications
Performs electrical system design for switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, generators, transformers, distribution panels and various raceway systems
Designs underground medium voltage distribution systems and sizes electrical low voltage (600V) and medium voltage (15kV) and high voltage (115kV) equipment
Develops, performs and reviews electrical system calculations including load flow, voltage drop, short circuit coordination and arc flash, motor starting calculations using SKM software
Creates electrical system models using SKM software for relay protection settings and prepares specifications for protection devices
Serves as the Engineer of Record for drawings, specifications and reports prepared under their direction
Reviews submittals, shop drawings and answers RFI’s for electrical systems
Performs field investigations, field inspections and witnesses start-up/acceptance testing activities
Works effectively in a collaborative environment with Architects, Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers and Structural Engineers on large multi-discipline projects
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on power systems
10+ years' experience in building/industrial/utility engineering
CA Professional Engineer Registration (PE)
Working knowledge of common building engineering codes and standards such as the NEC, NFPA, IESNA, IEEE, IAEI and NETA
Knowledge of power system analysis using SKM Software
Knowledge of medium (15kV) and high voltage (115kV) substation layout and controls
Working knowledge of common design methodologies for switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, generators, transformers, distribution panels, various raceway systems and underground medium voltage distribution
Ability to perform field investigation work near energized electrical equipment from 50V to 115kV; ability to climb ladders and work at elevated locations such as roof tops; ability to work in confined spaces such as manholes
Working knowledge of AutoCAD
Knowledge of protective relay design principles and practices for electro-mechanical, solid-state and microprocessor-based (SEL)
Communicate effectively verbally and through the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on electrical power systems a plus but not required
