Job Summary

AECOM’s Track & Civil Design Group is actively seeking a Track & Civil Engineer for immediate employment in the Mississauga, Ontario office. This position is within a large team who design track and related civil infrastructure for transit (LRT, Passenger Rail, Subway) and freight rail projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Project engineer for transit and rail projects

  • Support project manager / deputy project manager for some assignments

  • Design of track alignments and special track work

  • Design of grading and drainage

  • Design of utility protection and relocation

  • Design of roads and parking lots

  • Construction staging design

  • Undertake concept, preliminary, and detailed designs

  • Support studies and environmental assessments.

  • Prepare drawings

  • Prepare quantity take-offs

  • Prepare designs and drawings using CADD

  • Evaluate technical alternatives, resolve technical issues and interface with other disciplines

  • Review own work for technical accuracy, standard engineering practices

  • Prepare cost estimates, schedules, and specifications

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D and/or MicroStation and Bentley InRoads

  • Experience in Transit or Rail design (freight, LRT, subway, passenger rail, or streetcar)

  • Experience designing track or civil infrastructure

  • Experience with CN, CP, VIA, TTC, Metrolinx or similar

  • Experience preparing designs and checking own design work

  • Experience preparing quantity take-offs

  • Analytical, technical and problem solving skills and abilities

  • Ability to understand and apply construction standards

  • Proficient in using Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • 9+ years of relevant professional experience

  • P. Eng. Licensed

  • Transit or rail experience (designing track and civil works)

  • Foundational experience in construction, surveying, geotechnical, drafting/CAD, or design

  • Experience working with CN, CP, VIA, Metrolinx, TTC (or similar)

  • Rail track experience

  • Significant design experience
