Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a candidate to join our growing transportation team in Minneapolis, MN. Work will consist of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) planning and design and traffic engineering analysis. Typical task activities and assignments can include agency coordination, planning, ITS architecture development, systems engineering analysis, design, construction plan development, specifications, quantities, estimates, traffic impact studies, traffic analysis software and simulation modeling, traffic signal design, traffic signal timing, air/noise modeling, data analysis, before/after evaluation studies, technical reports, project meeting support and other duties as required. Periodic field observations and field inventory surveys is also included. Successful candidates will be based out of the Minneapolis office and may from time to time travel during the day or evenings to project sites, client meetings, other AECOM offices or other neighboring states in the Midwest. Successful candidates will be expected to work independently and in teams to advance projects through client processes.

  • Advanced and emerging technology / ITS devices / innovative solutions

  • Interstate highways

  • Urban and rural roadways

  • Transit systems

  • Other transportation facilities

Some Microstation, AutoCAD and GIS modeling work, maintenance of traffic planning, and signing/striping design may also be included.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in ITS planning/design or traffic engineering

  • Minnesota PE licensed

  • Working knowledge of traffic engineering software including some or all of the following: HCS, SYNCHRO, VISSIM, and other traffic operations analysis

  • Ability to take increasing responsibility for task management and desire to grow technical skills and innovations

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Good computer skills using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with the ITS Systems Engineering process

  • Previous experience with traffic engineering software

  • Traffic analyses, traffic planning evaluations, and report preparation skills

  • Experience with Minnesota Department of Transportation

  • Willingness to travel throughout Minnesota and the Upper Midwest

  • Experience with Microstation, AutoCAD and GIS
