Job Summary

Could you see yourself working on the development and implementation of some of Victoria’s largest and city shaping projects? Would you like to work on a wide range of development facilitation projects for the private sector, including central city and suburban activity centre commercial and residential development or master plans and planning scheme amendments for some of Victoria’s highest profile arts and cultural organisations, major airports and some of Australia’s largest infrastructure and renewables projects?

The AECOM Planning and Design VIC team is growing to meet the demand for a high quality, innovative and multidisciplinary planning service. We are looking for a senior planner with substantial experience and a strong understanding of statutory and strategic planning principles, legislation and processes. The position would suit someone who is motivated and quick thinking, and who thrives in a dynamic environment where there is opportunity to grow your technical and operational skills across a range of projects. The successful candidate will have strong project management skills and interpersonal qualities with the ability to lead projects and develop positive client relationships.

Minimum Requirements

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Providing support to the Planning team in servicing internal and external client requirements

  • Working across a wide range of opportunities and project types

  • Strategy and policy analysis and development, Planning Scheme Amendment development and management

  • Preparing development facilitation strategies, approvals and process management

  • Land use planning due diligence assessments

  • Ministerial and Council planning applications for significant projects and a wide range of public and private Clients

  • Project Management, Client liaison and stakeholder engagement activities

  • Bids and Opportunities - scoping and costing of projects, tracking job costs and working to specification

  • Providing timely and accurate planning advice on a range of project types

  • Working alongside other professionals on a range of multi-disciplinary projects

  • Working within set criteria, deadlines and budget, with a clear understanding of commercial outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

You should have a minimum of 5 years relevant experience with a combination of the following technical skills, attributes and experience:

  • A thorough understanding statutory and strategic planning principles and processes and be able to provide succinct, practical and analytical advice

  • A passion for producing insightful and high quality work and advice

  • Innovative and strong lateral thinking

  • A commitment to producing high quality work

  • A sound understanding of Planning schemes, the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and allied legislation and processes.

  • Strong organisational, communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills

  • An ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Project management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines

  • Ability to interact, collaborate and contribute to the dynamic team environment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products is essential, whilst an understanding of Adobe Creative Suite and GIS would be considered an advantage.
