Job Summary

Our Transportation team have a vacancy for a Traffic Technician with the opportunity to gain experience across a broad range of traffic planning, engineering and management disciplines in the Traffic and Local Roads team. You will have the opportunity to work flexibly across our Manchester and Liverpool offices.

The Traffic and Local Roads team provides concept and preliminary design, network modelling, detailed design, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors. We also support other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways component.

We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.

The successful candidate will be joining a growing team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:

  • Transport for Greater Manchester

  • Manchester City Council

  • Liverpool City Council

  • Merseytravel

  • Highways England

  • Warrington Council

  • Cheshire West and Chester Council

  • Trafford Council

  • Stockport Council

In addition to delivering work within the local office the role will occasionally involve working with other AECOM teams in the UK and Ireland. We are therefore seeking candidates who are able to work flexibly across other AECOM offices as projects dictate to support the wider business.

Further, the role offers opportunities to work in AECOMs wider UK European, Middle East, India and Africa regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for yourself and other project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design.

  • Self monitoring against financial targets, managing time and deliverables against agreed programmes.

  • Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with your task brief.

  • Provide technical support in preparation of CaD drawings, document, reports and other outputs as required.

  • Provide site survey and visit roles, compiling and recording required scheme information.

  • Keep up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation.

  • Support Management and colleagues wirhin Traffic and Local Roads team.

  • Manage own career progression alongside your line manager.

  • Contribute to bids and proposals.

  • Represent the team and AECOM to a high professional standard when undertaking your day to day duties and interfacing with clients and other organisations.

Minimum Requirements

a knowledge of some or all of the following technical areas:

  • Traffic engineering/management design,

  • Cycling and walking design,

  • Traffic signal design,

  • Bus priority and BRT,

  • Road safety audits, analysis and design,

  • Traffic signing and wayfinding.

  • Parking,road safety and public transport design.

  • Traffic Regulation Orders and parking,

  • Traffic modelling software (e.g. VISSIM, TRANSYT and LinSig etc.)

Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable

Driving licence

CSCS Card holder.

Prior experience in engineering or traffic disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

You will hold or be working towards an Engineering/ Cad Qualification (BTEC/ HND/ HNC /AVCE/ City and Guilds or similar).
