Job Summary

At our Centre of Excellence in Swindon, AECOM is working with some of the largest and most prestigious automotive and manufacturing clients globally. Our engineers and consultants tackle complex and innovative projects across these sectors. We need to employ people who are motivated by challenges and are able to adapt to rapidly changing environments. The divison has recently grown into both Manchester and Europe and we're looking to add a Principal Lean & Continuous Improvement Engineer to our Manchester office.

As a Continuous Improvement Engineer you will be based in Manchester but depending on projects you could spend up to 2-3 days per week at our clients sites, there may also be a requirement to visit fellow LEAN Engineers in our Swindon office. There will also be some overseas travel required from time to time.

You will be working the Process and Automation Team where we specialise in what is called process-led-design. Essentially we work with businesses to help them optimise performance and create efficiencies. We are a small friendly professional and rapidly growing team which started in the automotive industry and has expanded to cover everything from aviation and defence to food and transportation. We use tools like scenario modelling and Lean Six Sigma to find areas where we can improve process and infrastructure. But what makes our team different is that our engineers come from the manufacturing industry – they are at home on the factory floor and really understand what is keeping our clients up at night. Our team consists of smart and intelligent people who are at the forefront of thinking around Industry 4.0 – and are helping our clients understand the implications of digital connectivity and how to embrace big data and automation to get ahead of the competition. We assist our clients in solving complex operational challenges. Blending strategic thinking with hands-on practicality, our teams of consultants and experts work to develop and implement operational strategies that solve our clients' most critical problems.

You will work in teams of consultants providing expertise in engineering and manufacturing, helping clients to achieve new performance highs and their strategic objectives.Your role will be an important contribution to the analysis, design, and implementation of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Management approaches, developing tailor-made solutions and working closely with clients to ensure positive impact and sustainable results.

The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of change and process improvement within a similar role preferably within a manufacturing business. A degree in an engineering principle is essential. A certified qualification in Lean Six Sigma is essential.

Minimum Requirements

  • Professional experience in all areas of Lean Manufacturing, e.g., The Toyota Production System, Kaizen methods, TPM, JIT, SMED

  • Professional experience in the introduction and implementation of Lean Manufacturing concepts

  • Preferred Advanced graduate degree and excellent academic record required (e.g., MBA, PhD, LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt etc.)

  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Strong record of leadership in an academic, professional, or extracurricular setting

  • Mobile and excited to take on longer international assignments

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate would come from the Manufacturing Industry as a Lean Engineer and have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

· Certified LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt or potential to work to

· Experience of change management and improving the lean culture of a business

· Experience of delivering training in LEAN and Continuous Improvement

· Have a hands on approach to LEAN
