Job Summary

AECOM are currently looking to recruit an experienced Highway Design Engineer to support a major project in Bahrain.Working under the guidance of the Team Leader – Highways or Project Manager/Director as the case maybe, the incumbent will be responsible for the design of various types of major roadway projects. Projects include design of new highways and upgrading/rehabilitation of existing roads and interchanges.

Duties and responsibilities as follows:

Co-ordination with Design Team Members

Leading and designing internal team for the following elements :

  • Road layouts for major and minor road schemes

  • Horizontal Curvature inclusive of superelevation calculations

  • Vertical Curvature

  • Analysis of Stopping Sight Distance in 3d planes

  • Review of relaxation and departures, including combination departures

  • Grade Separated Junctions

  • Signalized Junctions

  • Priority Junctions

  • Road Restraint Systems

  • Storm water Design and coordination

  • Pavement Design (DMRB and AASHTO approach)

  • Kerb layout

  • Traffic Signs and Road Marking (DMRB and Gulf Region)

  • Street Lighting coordination from highways perspective

​Utilities conflict analysis

Co-ordination with various authorities and obtaining planning permissions

Design Calculation and verification

Coordinating with CAD team

Experience in CDM/Safety in Design and will QA/QC deliverables

Assisting in preparation of report

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience designing major roads and highways projects.

  • Experience of designing Infrastructure elements of housing developments projects or urban streets

  • Familiarity of industry practices and regulations.

  • Thorough knowledge of current technology; must be able to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on project.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Working knowledge of MX and or Civils 3d

  • Experience with highway design tools or similar computer tools.

  • Familiarity with design standards, DMRB preferred but also AASHTO, AustRoads and BS.

  • Familiarity with design standards for urban streets will be advantageous

  • Knowledge of Standard International Specifications and code of practices.

  • Middle East experience.

  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or a related field, Master’s Degree Preferred

  • Either Professional Qualification (i.e. UK Chartered Engineer) or working towards a Professional Qualification preferred.
