Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Transportation Planner for immediate employment for the Los Angeles, CA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Developing technical reports and presentations representing transportation planning analysis including travel demand forecasting, environmental documentation, demographic analysis, traffic analysis, and engineering analysis for transportation projects including bus, rail, highway and active transportation

  • Lead smaller teams in completion of tasks, lead tasks to completion, lead the development technical memorandums independently, attend client meetings independently, develop and make presentations

  • Support Managers, Project Managers and Technical leads in the execution of projects and studies for clients throughout the LA Metro Area primarily

  • Serves as a valuable member of a multi-disciplinary team for major transportation and transit planning projects

  • Independently manages planning tasks and small planning projects with minimal guidance from senior staff

  • Provides information to various groups, committees and individuals regarding transportation planning projects

  • Prepares plans, maps, graphs, visual aids, correspondence, reports and analyzes statistical data

  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Devise innovative solutions to solve complex terminal transportation planning issues

  • Deliver planning products with extremely tight business deadlines

  • Manage multiple planning tasks simultaneously and effectively, utilizing limited resources to achieve complex goals

  • Any other duties assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Engineering, Planning, Urban Planning or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to complete varied work tasks on schedule

  • Advanced knowledge of the philosophies, principals, practices and techniques of planning

  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined planning problems

  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously

  • Experience with transportation planning principles including corridor planning for bus rapid transit and rail systems

  • Experience developing presentations and presenting materials to the general public including graphic simulations and infographics

  • A desire to think creatively

  • Ability to manage tasks and small projects independently

  • Ability to facilitate discussion in a public forum

  • Ability to self-manage professional workload and career progression

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of research and statistical methods

  • Data collection, analysis, and presentation experience

  • Networking and relationship building experience

  • Proficient in GIS data development, analysis and programming with InDesign, Adobe Acrobat and other graphics tools to prepare maps, infographics, exhibits and charts

  • Experience with transit operations

  • Experience with NEPA/CEQA documentation
