Job Summary

As a member of AECOM’s Corporate Communications team based in Los Angeles, CA and reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, the Strategic Communications Summer Intern will support the development of internal and external communications for various C-suite and top L.A. market executives and assist a range of Southern California events and media relations activities.

The intern also will collaborate with other Corporate Communications team members. . He or she must commit to 35-40 hours per week during the three month, paid internship. Candidates may be asked to complete a brief writing exercise and/or provide writing samples during the interview process.

The successful candidate will:

  • Support or assist in the development of a range of communications, including for C-suite and top L.A. market executives.

  • Research, draft or proofread materials such as news releases, media pitches, advertorials, biographies, social media posts and fact sheets.

  • Research key executive speaking opportunities.

  • Research media outlets and regularly update media databases.

  • Support a variety of events and programs in the Southern California region through proactive and effective media outreach activities.

  • Engage with Corporate Communications colleagues to align activities and provide support as needed.

  • Provide communications support to internal clients.

  • Assist with the repackaging of content for other communications channels.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be college student currently enrolled in his or her junior / senior year and pursuing an undergraduate degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related discipline.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

  • Strong research skills.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, reliable, well organized, constantly willing to learn, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work collaboratively at varying levels of a global organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a variety of projects concurrently, especially in a demanding environment, under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous PR / communications internship experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

  • Knowledge of Associated Press style.
