Our Los Angeles studio is actively seeking a dynamic Practice Lead to add to our Interiors Leadership in our Metro Buildings + Places business unit and will functions as a Principal in the firm working alongside our local and national Interiors Leadership to lead, inspire and build the Interiors practice in the Southern California market.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
In partnership with the Interiors Leadership, provide strategic vision and day-to-day administration of the Interiors group
Responsible for development and execution of goals, business plan and profitability, aligning efforts with regional and national business unit plans and goals
Work with upper management to support brand messaging which is consistent and present with the client, the internal design studio, and the design community
Maintain action plan for all Interiors projects and conduct regular review sessions with appropriate personnel
Supervise the production of drawings and documents, oversee design quality control on all projects
Manage fee proposals and workload projections for projects
Work closely with project managers to identify budget and schedule constraints, support project profitability
In conjunction with Interiors Leadership, oversee the implementation and quality of the groups documentation of projects
Understand and enforce conditions of client contracts, and understand scope of work and where appropriate seek additional services
Ability to think strategically, implement change, enforce policy and resolve conflict
Serve as a mentor by coaching design teams and individuals; grows and develops the group and individual members
In partnership with other Interiors Leadership, responsible for performance development, prepare and deliver staff evaluations, and determine workload allocation
Participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff and build appropriate staff levels
Encourage staff exploration and innovation to achieve project design excellence and continual improvement for the achievement of original design ideas and concepts
Keep abreast of new technology, materials, methods and developments in his/her specific field
Maintain membership and activity in appropriate industry organizations and be an active member of the design community
Lead the development and execution of the Interior’s marketing strategy at the local and regional business unit level collaborating with Interiors Leadership and other market sectors leaders
Identify new business opportunities and grow current client relationships including early client interaction, scope of work development and interviews
Ensure positive client, consultant, contractor and jurisdictional satisfaction, grow our presence in the market
Work with marketing team in development of marketing material and proposal preparation
Coordinate with marketing to promote the design studio through submission of works for industry awards
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture required
15+ years of experience with a large Interiors or Architectural firm, with at least 10 years as Senior Level Interior Designer; design and/or project management experience for Commercial Interiors required
Registered Interior Designer or Architect with current license required
Experience in design, design development and project leadership for all sizes of interior design projects
Strong knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment, interior finishes, lighting, signage, color and materials
Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets, resulting in project profitably
Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients
Thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines
Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills including both verbal/presentation and written
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Be able to respond to changing demands
Strong leadership and team building skills with strong initiative
Ability to work under pressure
Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required
Master’s degree in related field
Knowledge of Revit
For Registered Architects, NCARB registration preferred
LEED accredited Professional with Sustainability and/or Wellness experience
Preferred proficiency in the following computer skills: Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software
