Job Summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced stakeholder engagement professional to join AECOM’s fast growing stakeholder engagement services team. The team has won a number of exciting new commissions and is looking to recruit into the London office.

This role will principally involve helping to manage and delivery stakeholder engagement and consultation for a number of major infrastructure projects, with an initial focus on road and rail schemes.

There will also be a need to assist with the growth of stakeholder engagement service capabilities across AECOM, with a focus on providing advice and support to project teams working in a variety of sectors across the UK.

Team profile:

AECOM’s specialist stakeholder engagement team has a track record of delivering effective and innovative engagement and consultation for a number of high-profile projects across the UK. We work across a number of sectors including transport, energy, water and waste infrastructure as well as commercial and residential development. We also provide communications and engagement support around local planning policy development and a range of environmental initiatives.

Our role is to build understanding of proposals with all stakeholders, seek their views in a timely manner to inform policy, plan or design development and, where possible, develop consensus to help minimise objections. We work to engage and build effective working relationships with local authorities, land/property owners, technical stakeholders as well as potentially directly affected businesses, local communities, locally elected representatives, specialist interest groups and the media.

The team delivers a whole project service, from early engagement to inform policy and plan development through pre-application consultation to stakeholder liaison and management during construction, operation and decommissioning.

We work closely with clients to determine how best to communicate, consult or engage their stakeholders which, in turn, helps create strong, supported and deliverable policies, plans and projects.

Current and recent clients and projects include:

  • HS2, Supporting delivery of consultation on Phase 2b route

  • Network Rail, Stakeholder engagement to support major programme of upgrade works at Waterloo

  • Highways England, Support with consultation on major highway/junction improvement works

  • Transport for London, Consultation on Bank station capacity upgrade

  • Thames Water, Support for consultation around proposals for Thames Tideway Tunnel

  • Guildford Borough Council, Delivery of consultation to support Local Plan development process

  • Consultation to support proposals for multiple energy and waste projects across the UK

  • Environment Agency, consultation on flood risk management plans

Responsibilities:

The person undertaking this role will be responsible for:

  • Day-to-day delivery of stakeholder engagement services on a range of projects;

  • Support provision of stakeholder engagement services to projects being managed by other sectors of the AECOM business;

  • Support in identifying new business opportunities for the provision of stakeholder engagement services and associated proposal development; and

  • Support in the ongoing proactive promotion of the AECOM stakeholder engagement service to both internal and external target audiences

Working arrangements

We are currently recruiting primarily to support the delivery of a number of new commissions on major infrastructure projects. The role will be based in our Aldgate office in London but will require a willingness to travel to other AECOM and client offices. Some home working to maximise work efficiency and reduce time lost to travel can be included in the working arrangements

Minimum Requirements

The role will require the following skills and competencies:

  • Experience of delivering stakeholder engagement and statutory consultation for development projects;

  • Experience of working in industry sectors relevant to AECOM’s business (eg energy, water, transport, commercial development etc);

  • Passionate about delivering best practice principles for stakeholder engagement;

  • High standard of personal communication skills and confidence to engage with people in different sector disciplines, present to peers and clients, and communicate with statutory and community stakeholders;

  • Knowledge of the various consenting regimes for development projects in the UK and planning and environmental policy developments related to stakeholder participation and engagement would be an advantage; and

  • Willingness to travel and work flexibly
