Job Summary

AECOM are looking to recruit Head of Media Relations who will be responsible for designing AECOM’s Media Relations strategy across EMIA and designing and delivering a UK media relations strategy.

The post holder will also be responsible for promoting and protecting the AECOM brand with media stakeholders and audiences.

Working as part of the EMIA communications and marketing team, the key responsibilities will be to effectively:

Work across several business lines to support AECOM’s business, promoting our marketing campaigns and securing positive coverage in appropriate media outlets;

Manage the community of media relations experts across EMIA to design and implement appropriate strategies to support the growth ambitions of our business;

Respond to press enquiries, sometimes responding to very tight deadlines, ensuring that the appropriate response is provided from across the business;

Ensure AECOM’s perspective is sought actively by media contacts;

Draft and distribute press releases/opinion pieces, seeking views from across a large multi discipline organisation;

Work with the VP, Marketing and Communications, EMIA and the UK Director of Government Relations to design and implement crisis media relations strategies;

Liaise with the Enterprise External Communications team on key initiatives, and become an active member of this global network.

This will be achieved by:

Maintaining the identification and management of strategically important media outlets and contacts across EMIA with the potential to promote AECOM’s brand and messaging to an appropriate audience;

Raise AECOM’s profile amongst EMIA clients through the media;

Working with the marketing and communications team to examine potential partnerships with relevant industry bodies and think tanks around specific themes so as to raise profile and enhance AECOM’s credibility in our markets;

Working with the Director of UK Government Affairs to build AECOM’s reputation with local and national government;

Provide strategic advice to senior members of the AECOM Leadership Team on media perception of AECOM’s Commercial Strategy;

Arrange events; for example roundtables and thought leadership events, aimed at promoting AECOM;

Working as an integrated part of the marketing and communications team the role will involve planning and delivery of media stakeholder awareness initiatives such as events, site visits and conferences

Working with key AECOM advisors and senior management develop a comprehensive EMIA media plan and communicate it to senior AECOM executives, with an update at least annually;

Working with key AECOM advisors, senior management and principally the Vice President, Enterprise Strategic Marketing and Communications to develop and maintain a short list of leading and lagging indicators to measure progress against plan;

Translate business needs and issues effectively into an acceptable, outcomes-focused public policy agenda;

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

A proven track record in media relations, including thorough knowledge of the needs of a business AECOM’s size and reach;

A proven track record of rapid responses to media enquiries across complex issues in either a large scale business, political or third sector environment;

Excellent writing and communication skills;

A broad knowledge of relevant infrastructure policy in the UK including policy, commentators, clients and competitors;

Personal gravitas and confidence – able to earn the respect of internal and external interfaces;

Strong persuasive influencing skill set; able to influence and engage with senior management within AECOM and externally with business partners;

Proven experience of developing and implementing proactive overarching strategies for media relations with effective results;

Acute analytical skills; the ability to digest and brief complex information often under stringent time constraints

Ability to provide fresh communications thinking;

Effective advocate – complex influencing skills;

The ability to develop and overarching strategic media relations plan with the aim of promoting the AECOM brand in the eyes of our private sector clients as well as government;

Leadership – high level of integrity with ability to develop both internal and external credibility and organisational capability; and

Communications: demonstrated effectiveness in concise oral and written communications and protocol processes

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant experience in a fast paced press office supporting a similar scale business, charity or third sector organisation
