AECOM is recruiting for a Bid Win Strategy Manager
This role is responsible for driving best practice and, in particular, leading strategic thinking for Work Winning for major bids across EMIA, working selectively from the qualified EMIA pipeline on those opportunities that will make the greatest difference to the companies growth.
The role works with the regional teams that execute bids and proposals, but its focus is not to take responsibility for bid execution and writing, rather to push strategic thinking into the bids.
Winning is a consequence of the right strategy and the right relationships.
Out of Strategy comes the regions, markets, sectors and services we want to prioritise – which guides our selection of key clients;
Customer Account Management is strongly linked to the pipeline – we should prioritise those clients with the strongest and most aligned pipelines; and the information from CAM is essential to develop our ‘win strategies’ for the major bids that we are pursuing.
Work Winning develops the individual capture plans for the individual bids.
The Bid Studio (and other equivalent functions across EMIA) then develops, writes and quality assures the bids themselves.
The role is “front-of-house” and involves direct interaction with clients as well as creating impact with internal colleagues to change the way in which they approach their bids. It is not a “backstage” role to do with the mechanics of bid production. Thinking on bids needs to link to operational delivery models so as to ensure that ‘we bid as we will deliver’.
The role needs to create impact in the way it is carried out, so that improvements in Work Winning spread widely and make a difference across EMIA.
Acts as an exemplar for Work Winning, developing and driving ‘win strategy’ thinking (built along the lines of the ‘Four Rules of Bidding’) into the business.
Directly leads and supports the creation and execution of strategies on certain key major bids, working with bid teams to work out what the client really wants, who the key decision-makers are, how to deliver better than the competition can and how to express this clearly and well.
Takes responsibility for gathering and making sense of the information required for the pipeline of major bids, with particular emphasis on major bids >$25m in fee (and strategically important bids). The objective is to make sure these bids in particular have a timely go/no go enhanced by the ‘win strategy’ workshops described above.
Through the use of personal networks, the CAM network and other internal relationships, builds relationships with key external stakeholders that supports the pipeline of forthcoming major bids.
Works effectively with colleagues in the EMIA Strategy and Growth Group where interfaces exist with Strategic Planning, CAM and Marketing and Communications.
Encourages cross-company working by building strong relationships with Strategy and Growth peers across EMIA.
Performs and promotes behaviours that are enshrined in the AECOM core values – Safeguards, Inspires, Anticipates, Collaborates, Delivers and Dreams.
Finds opportunities to assist, encourage and advise junior and mid-career staff with their own career development, as well as looking for self-development in the conduct of the role.
Support to the Director, Work Winning and Major Bids, EMIA
This is a strategic position that requires clear thinking, strong strategic skills, the ability to create empathy and rapport with internal colleagues and external clients, and a cooperative ability to constructively engage and assist the business to pursue the EMIA growth plan.
A key competency required is the proven ability to bring passion, drive and the will to win to the facilitation of win strategy workshops and following positioning meetings/workshops.
Other key competencies include a good knowledge of the Architect-Engineer business and a strong track record in the implementation of work winning methods and a strong track record of winning in a multi-geography, multi-market, multi-discipline enterprise.
Preferred Qualifications Extensive experience in a similar role is essential for this post
