Job Summary

As part of AECOM's growth plans we are looking for an Associate - Specification Consultant to join our established team based in London.

As the Associate you will be responsible for day to day management of the London Specification Consulting Team delivering robust Specification documentation for both internal (AECOM) and external Clients which accurately reflect the project and contractual requirements. Projects to be delivered on time and to agreed budgets in compliance with established processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Management

  • Manage Team day to day activities.

  • Manage Team resource planning, coordinating workload with Manchester Team.

  • Identify and provide ongoing training and mentoring of Team members.

  • Meet with Clients to kick-off projects and follow through with colleagues delivering the project to agreed project budgets and programme.

  • Responsible for making sure QA/ QC procedures/ actions are followed through by the Team.

  • Chair monthly Team meetings.

  • Contribute to ongoing Team development, Manage P&R process with the team members under your direct management.


  • Work with Head of Specification Consulting to deliver financial targets for the Team.

  • Qualify as an APIC PM to understand and take responsibility for project finances delegating tasks to Team members as appropriate.

  • Work with APIC PMA to maintain Fee Projection and identify monthly invoice amounts.

Health and Safety

  • Manage Team compliance with AECOM Health and Safety requirements.

Business Development

  • Develop and share network of Client/ potential Client contacts.

  • In conjunction with Head of Specification Consulting identify and pursue BD opportunities.

  • With assistance from head of Specification Consulting prepare fee proposals with full understanding of the project scope and resource requirements.

Key Internal Relationships:

  • Head of Specification Consulting and Team Leader in Manchester Office.

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the responsibilities of the role.

  • Act in a professional and diplomatic manner with excellent verbal and written communication/ interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.

  • Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ambitious and enthusiastic with a comprehensive understanding of the design & delivery process allied with a sympathy for the Clients architectural vision.

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of UK Construction procurement methodologies and how these relate to Specification Documentation.

  • Ability and flexibility to work in an international environment as may be required.

  • Able to advise Clients on how architectural specification fits with the wider suite of documents prepared by the Design Team, including other disciplines, and consult with client on best way to prepare production information.

  • Keep up to date with technical standards, products and innovation as they relate to our Consultancy business.

  • Flexible attitude to new ways and methods of working.

  • Work collaboratively with senior colleagues on new initiatives under direction of Head of Specification Consulting.

  • Good understanding of BIM and its impact on our industry.

  • Ability to take the initiative in response to direction// instructions and demonstrate a pro-active approach to daily tasks.

  • Punctual and reliable with the ability to prioritise and manage work load.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideally Degree qualified in Architecture or Architectural Technology.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and database applications; NBS Create experience is desirable.
