Job Summary

This is a permanent full-time Trainee role ideally suited to school leavers - if you are a graduate please apply to our Graduates UK & Ireland 2017 positions, and if you are a university student looking for a temporary placement please apply to our industrial placement or internship positions.

AECOM have opportunities for school leavers, qualified to either GCSE level or A-level standard (or equivalent) to join our accomplished team within the Building Engineering sector . The position on offer is attached with the Building Physics Team. The Building Physics team is a specialist team within building services with specific expertise in building simulation and 3D modelling. Using advanced technologies and innovative design, we provide performance based solutions to a wide range of problems combining Architectural Engineering with M&E design and sustainability consultancy and a number of integrated specialist services. Our team specialists in wide range of work type from assessing and developing low carbon energy designs, to building to full Computation Fluid Dynamics assessments at concept master planning developments through to individual detailed building analysis. Initially the position is predominantly 3D geometry creation that will feed into model detailed analysis.

Our Structured Training Excellence Programme (STEP) is designed to recruit school-leavers who show commitment, aptitude and enthusiasm, into science, engineering and technology careers with us. You will combine work-based on-the-job training and learning with further studies and must be willing to progress your career. After an initial probationary period you must be willing to undertake a day release course at a Further Education College to study a BTEC Level 3 or HND in a relevant discipline which would be funded by AECOM. Your NVQ Level 3 will be achieved during this time through your work experience.

Driven by the successful completion of BTEC Level 3 or a HND the successful applicant may want to continue their studies at a higher level. AECOM fully expects this and is keen to develop and nurture its talent. For those wishing to progress their education AECOM may continue to support individuals through an appropriate part-time BSc/BEng degree course to support you towards Incorporated Engineer status.

Minimum Requirements

No experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at either GCSE or A-Level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:

  • Minimum of 3 GCSE’s at grade ‘C’ or above, including Mathematics & English, and either; Completed first year of BTEC National Diploma or 'AS' or 'A' levels (minimum 80 UCAS points) - preferably STEM subjects

  • Show an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software

  • Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Building Engineering

  • Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.

  • Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic

  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail

  • Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects

  • English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
