Position Title Operator Foreman - RSS II

Job Summary

Purpose and Scope:

The incumbent, possessing significant knowledge of all types of equipment operations, provides direct supervision to the assigned operator crew members.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Monitors plans, issues assignments, reviews work and provides directions to assigned crew.

  2. Interprets specifications, drawings, and job orders as needed for area of supervision.

  3. Establishes and adjusts work sequences to meet work schedule using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel.

  4. Tracks materials inventory and maintains required records, assigns priorities, and inspects and evaluates the work of employees being supervised.

  5. Makes recommendations on materials, parts and equipment required for assigned contract tasks.

  6. Analyzes and resolves work problems. Checks work for accuracy and answers technical questions regarding craft operations.

  7. Reviews time sheets to audit labor hours committed to projects and to verify accuracy of hours being credited for payroll purposes. May study schedules and estimate work hour requirements for completion of job.

  8. Conducts weekly safety meetings to promote safety consciousness.

  9. May occasionally perform same duties as craftsmen being supervised.

  10. May provide training to junior level Operators.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Position is represented by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Two years of experience as an Equipment Operator or completion of recognized apprenticeship program. One or more years in supervisory roles. Possess journeyman status. Possess verbal and written communications skills to effectively supervise employees and communicate with other company and customer personnel. Must receive Hazardous Materials Handling training within 90 days of hiring and every two years thereafter. Must possess a Class AB Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Hazardous Materials endorsement. Must be physically qualified in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Must be able to pass a driver skills test by CDL standards. Possess an active government Top Secret Security Clearance. Possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
