AECOM is seeking an experienced Stationary Engineer IV on 2nd shift at a pharmaceutical complex in La Jolla, CA! Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 3:00pm – 11:30pm; hours may vary based on business demand.
This Stationary Engineer / Central Utility Plant Operator reports directly to the Chief Engineer and is responsible for providing an advanced level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment and systems. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the c are and maintenance of all power plant equipment such as piping, boilers, chillers, compressors, reheat units, motors, etc. that are typically found in central utility plants (CUP) and associated equipment within the buildings.
The Stationary Engineer must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required. May also assist specialized technicians in other facility maintenance trades and services as needed.
Identifies and corrects problems with the CUP equipment such as boilers, chillers, chilled water and condenser pumps, air compressors and cooling towers.
Properly maintains and operates building HVAC control systems.
Performs preventive maintenance, modifies, installs, and maintains company heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Assembles, installs, operates, calibrates, troubleshoots, dismantles, and repairs a wide variety of heating / ventilating systems and humidity control systems and air balance systems.
Monitors building automation systems to ensure proper operation of air handling equipment and room temperatures including start up and shutdown, and normal operating conditions. Makes adjustments as necessary.
Takes daily chiller and boiler readings, submits reports as required to meet local and state requirements.
Performs water treatment chemical analysis
Maintains/performs Preventative Maintenance schedules and building tours.
Repairs piping systems including pumps, motors, and valves.
Troubleshoots electrical control circuits and demonstrates ability to read schematics.
Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
Complies with all governmental, company, and industrial regulations, codes, and standards, health safety practices, and permit systems.
Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Safely performs functions of the position including following proper company safety guidelines, such as lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work procedures, and wearing PPE as required.
Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
Five years of experience as a Stationary Engineer / Central Utility Plant Operator in an industrial setting, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualified applicants offered a position must be able to obtain site specific security access including all applicable background checks.
Qualified applicants must submit to and pass a Tuberculosis test prior to employment, or be medically cleared for Tuberculosis by a medical professional, and be able to maintain annual negative results.
Qualified applicants must pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and be able to successfully complete a fit test for each type of respirator needed for the position or for an approved alternate respirator that provides equal or better protection from identified hazards.
Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
This position may require a valid Driver’s License.

This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.
This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.
Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.
Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.
EPA Universal certification.
Experience working with complex electrical and mechanical building equipment.
Experience working with HPSI steam boilers and associated equipment.
Experience working with chillers, cooling towers, AHU’s, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, VAV pneumatic controls, etc.
Training or experience in building automation systems (BAS).
Previous experience supervising vendors and on-site contractors.
Experience working in a CMMS environment.
Proficient with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel).
May be required to work overtime, variable shifts and 24-hour/7 days a week on-call as needed.
May be required to work holidays and weekends.
