Position Title Senior Cost / Schedule Engineer

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Cost/Schedule Engineer for the La Jolla, CA office. This position will provide Program Controls support at San Diego Unified School District, a K-12 school district.

Duties may include any or all of the following cost and schedule controls tasks:

  • Prepares, updates, and issues budget status and cash flow reports for management and stakeholders

  • Tracks and analyzes cash flow and the impact on obligations

  • Tracks project progress and generates status reports

  • Analyzes project commitments and expenditures

  • Creates custom reports to accommodate ad hoc requests

  • Coordinates with project managers and other field personnel, as required, to collect and interpret cost data and schedule information.

  • Manages project and program data in Unifier

  • Manages schedules in Primavera P6

  • Forecasts costs at completion, reports variance metrics, and quantifies cost risks

  • Analyzes cost data and ensures that costs are assigned appropriately; and initiates corrections of incorrect charges

  • Interfaces with district finance and contract specialists to ensure correct cost coding and prompt processing of payment requests and vendor invoices

  • Assists in the financial closeout of projects and contracts

  • Reviews pending commitments to ensure they fit within the authorized project/program scope and budget

  • Assists with earned value analysis and management; quantifying cost and schedule risks

  • Performs additional assignments as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or demonstrated equivalent work experience

  • 7+ years construction controls experience or any equivalent combination of training and related experience

  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of diversified construction project/program controls systems, principles and practices, plus the ability to solve complex problems, develop and implement procedures and maintain liaison with units both internal and external. Excellent interpersonal, communication, supervisory, and analytical problem solving skills

  • Software Requirements: Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, Powerpoint is a requirement

  • People Management Skills: A dynamic individual who can work with project managers, construction managers, various district staff, architects/engineers, and construction contractors/vendors; someone who can obtain accurate data without offending. Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team

  • Other skills: Position requires excellent time management, written and oral communications, analytical and interpersonal skills. Must exhibit professionalism and the ability to train and mentor junior personnel, client staff, and contractors/vendors who have no previous experience with the district’s software systems and cost/schedule controls procedures

  • Complexity & Decision Making Authority: Under minimal supervision, may perform technical assignments of various complexities. Supervise assigned technical personnel performing complex work; and set work priorities

  • Development & Leadership of Others: May provide supervision and technical direction to support staff of lower level professional, technical, and clerical personnel

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

  • Valid drivers license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Unifier, PeopleSoft, and Primavera P6, or similar software programs, and knowledge of SQL, Infomaker, and Report Writing programs, such as Crystal Reports, a plus
