AECOM is seeking a Laboratory Instrumentation and Controls Technician V for our maintenance team within a pharmaceutical complex in La Jolla, CA! Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, various hours may be required based on business demand.
This I&C technician is responsible for acting as a subject matter expert in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and calibration service on the laboratory equipment (centrifuges, incubators, refrigerator/freezers, etc.), PLCs and other controls for commercial and industrial equipment to ensure uninterrupted operation of essential instrumentation, controls and electrical equipment. Effectively communicates with the site management team and the end user.
The Laboratory Instrumentation and Controls Technician V must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.
Calibrates, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs pharmaceutical laboratory equipment instrumentation such as Freezers, Incubators, etc.
Calibrates process instrumentation such as Temperature, Pressure, Humidity, etc.
Utilizes CMMS to track, schedule calibration and maintenance records for lab process equipment.
Provides regular reports to senior management regarding throughput/performance, issues and projects in laboratories and other assigned production projects.
Identifies and documents cost savings.
Utilizes strong mechanical and electrical skills in order to complete assignments.
Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems
Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.
Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.
Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
Six years of experience in an instrumentation and controls maintenance role in a pharmaceutical, chemical, industrial, or related laboratory environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualified applicants offered a position must be able to obtain site specific security access including all applicable background checks.
Qualified applicants must submit to and pass a Tuberculosis test prior to employment, or be medically cleared for Tuberculosis by a medical professional, and be able to maintain annual negative results.
Qualified applicants must pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and be able to successfully complete a fit test for each type of respirator needed for the position or for an approved alternate respirator that provides equal or better protection from identified hazards.
Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
This position may require a valid Driver’s License.

This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.
This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.
Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.
Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.
Associates Degree or Technical School Certificate for Instrumentation / Electronics.
ISA level 1 Certification
Experience with digital controls systems, PLCs, etc.
Experience working with Reliability Engineers to determine Root Cause Failure Analysis and discuss vibration findings.
Hands-on experience with the operation, repair and maintenance of Honeywell and Siemens control equipment devices.
Experience working in semiconductor facilities or chemical or pharmaceutical production or research faculties.
Experience in calibration, troubleshooting and repair of Process Instrumentation on equipment such as Autoclaves and Glassware Washers.
Experience in calibration, troubleshooting and repair of Laboratory equipment including Incubators, Freezers, Refrigerators, Centrifuges, Ovens, and/or Shakers.
Experience in calibration and repair on instrument transmitters including Pressure, Pressure Differential, Vacuum, Temperature, RH, CO2, Speed, Flow, and Level.
- Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
