Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Asset Life Cycle Manager for a pharmaceutical complex in La Jolla, CA! Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday; various hours may be required based on business demand.

This work involves physical examination of buildings, facilities, and equipment to capture asset data, and may require walking long distances, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, and stooping in an industrial environment.

This position is responsible for managing the Asset Life Cycle for research instrumentation, which includes acquisition, utilization tracking, redeployment, documentation, CMMS data management, and disposition of laboratory and facility assets. Acts as logistics coordinator for the site and facilitate equipment transfers for inter- and intra-site transfer of assets. Develops and maintains effective relationships with customer base and vendor companies and align service delivery with business needs.

Successful candidates will be fluent in facility, production, or research asset maintenance / management or job planning functions within Operations, and demonstrate leadership experience in an industrial environment. Excellent presentation skills are required, as well as the ability to effectively communicate across functional areas to ensure integration between maintenance and analytical specialists.


  • Track asset related data through equipment purchase, transfer / movement and disposal.

  • Maintain close working relationship with customers, anticipates equipment needs, and communicate facilities and safety requirements to client team. This includes maintaining ownership of asset tagging, site arrivals, and registry/database entry and updates; assisting with optimizing utilization; participating on teams addressing ongoing management of equipment service, calibration, and end of lifecycle replacement; ongoing management of equipment moves / relocations; actively managing the Fixed Asset Register additions, deletions, and edits; and coordinating end of lifecycle dispositions.

  • Maintain professional and customer-oriented relationships with team members, internal and external customers and service providers, and building occupants.

  • Follow standard workflow process and provide a weekly/monthly forecast.

  • Partner with and assist scientific lines by understanding and initiating joint communities of practice to detail training and understanding of the Fixed Asset Register (FAR) process (how assets are added, deleted and/or transferred across departments and lines). Lead efforts to forecast equipment disposals and coordinate all associated efforts and ultimately own the FAR transactions supporting the line customers. Identify process improvements for laboratory instrument and facility asset tracking, maintenance, and logistics.

  • Coordinate timely joint asset reviews between AECOM and client leadership to assess equipment utilization, as well as, acquisition and disposal forecasting in support of a collaborative approach and focus on Total Cost of Ownership.

  • Understand and deliver against customer requirements. Coordinate interface(s) with other teams for various support requirements.

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of guidelines and execution processes for equipment (including Capital) purchase requisition. In addition, develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the use of e-forms such as the Notice of Equipment Moves (NOEM) form to initiate, redeploy or disposition assets.

  • Maintain intermediate to high computer skills necessary to access CMMS work orders and client’s internal asset redeployment systems, update equipment history, and access material inventory management systems. Key deliverables conveyed via significant EAMS proficiency and versatility.

  • Submit and follow up on work requests (including but not limited to decontamination, utility changes/installations, and calibration) in anticipation of installations and de-installation requirements, provide vendor escort, and perform verification of asset information as requested.

  • Maintain accurate equipment inventory in CMMS.

  • Track, verify and report team performance metrics based on established standards.

  • Perform other job-related, site-specific duties and special projects as requested.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards.

  • Safely perform functions of the position, including following proper company safety guidelines and wearing PPE as required.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in logistics, facility management, engineering, or related technical field, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field. 8 years of experience in logistics, inventory management, or scheduling in an industrial facility or laboratory environment will be considered demonstrated equivalent in experience with no education.

  2. In addition to education, this position requires 2 years of logistics or maintenance planning experience in an industrial, scientific instrumentation, or research and development environment.

  3. Qualified applicants offered a position must be able to obtain site specific security access including all applicable background checks.

  4. Qualified applicants must submit to and pass a Tuberculosis test prior to employment, or be medically cleared for Tuberculosis by a medical professional, and be able to maintain annual negative results.

  5. Qualified applicants must pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and be able to successfully complete a fit test for each type of respirator needed for the position or for an approved alternate respirator that provides equal or better protection from identified hazards.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Extensive experience in asset management support, understanding asset naming conventions, and maintenance system integration using industry standards such as BOMA.

  2. Experience in technical maintenance or logistics related to pharmaceutical discovery and development processes.

  3. Familiarity with facilities equipment or laboratory and process instrumentation.

  4. Extensive experience in querying, developing reports, and general functionality within a Computerized Maintenance Management System, such as Maximo, EAMS or similar systems.

  5. Experience creating, using and maintaining data to make business decisions.

  6. Proficiency in representing data in the form of written reports, charts, and graphs; producing effective PowerPoint presentations; and presenting information to large or demanding audience.

  7. Project management or quality management experience.

  8. Training in finance or budget management.

  9. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (including Outlook, Word, and Excel).
