Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer for employment in the Kitchener, Ontario Canada office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to the successful design, production, coordination and management of building mechanical systems

  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to solving design challenges

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining mechanical design guidelines

  • Provide technical support and supervision to technologists and junior engineers

  • Review shop drawings and maintenance manuals for compliance with construction documents

  • Provide contract administration services, including site reviews during construction

  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines, Project Managers and Business Lines within multi-disciplinary project delivery teams

  • Ensure that deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, calculations, reports) comply with sound engineering practice and applicable codes and standards

  • Ensure that deliverables are produced and issued in accordance with AECOM’s Quality Management System

  • Communicate effectively (both verbally and written) with internal team members and clients

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering fee estimates and proposals

Minimum Requirements

  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • 5+ years relevant experience in the design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and Building Automation Systems

  • Current Registration as a Professional Engineer in good standing with a provincial association in Canada

  • Design experience for industrial, institutional and commercial facilities including office tenant space, utilities and support facilities

  • Working knowledge of applicable local and national building codes, design standards, and engineering criteria

  • Proficient in mechanical engineering software for heating/cooling load calculations and energy modelling

  • Proficient in Autodesk software and other analysis/design software

  • Demonstrated experience working in multi-disciplinary teams delivering projects of varied complexity, size and scope

  • Ability to execute complete, accurate and coordinated project design assignments on time and within budget

  • Ability to understand overall project constraints including design budget limitations and schedule requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on projects that were executed using REVIT or a similar 3D BIM Product

  • Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code, CSA and NFPA Standards
