Job Summary

The Buildings + Places Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Electrical Engineer, Project Manager for immediate employment in the Kitchener, ON office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of electrical building systems, familiarity with all construction administration protocols and has excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform as an Electrical Engineer

  • At a project level, provide clear guidance to designers and technical staff to meet client objectives

  • Write and coordinate winning proposals, attract new clients and retain current clients as required

  • Manage financial and cost control aspects of projects

  • Meet with clients to review project requirements

  • Manage a project team to produce fully coordinated working drawings and project specifications

  • Collaborate with management on preparation of project proposals

  • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing with project team and clients

  • Preparation of design and contract documents, document checking, conduct construction review and contract administration throughout the duration of a project

  • Communicate with construction team to provide information and help resolve problems

  • Client communication, internal project team communication, consultant coordination, design development, drawing review and contract administration

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in related field

  • 5+ years of project design and construction administration experience

  • Solid experience in institutional, commercial and municipal buildings. Experience in water/wastewater and/or street lighting and traffic signal projects

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical safety code, building code, relevant standards, building systems and construction detailing

  • Experience in the design of electrical building services including:

  • electrical distribution (low voltage and medium voltage),

  • emergency and standby generators,

  • lighting and lighting controls,

  • fire alarm, public address, security, access control and telecommunications systems,

  • lightning protection

  • Experience in specification writing, cost estimates, conditions studies & reports.

  • Experience in motor controls and I&C

  • Basic understanding of other building disciplines (mechanical, architectural, structural) and coordination required.

  • Experience in power system analysis studies (short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash hazard)

  • Experience in construction administration and working with Contractors

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills

  • Experience in municipal and commercial projects and broad skills in all phases of project delivery

  • Strong, hands-on technical knowledge, document review, and experience in field review and contract administration

  • Strong business acumen and experience managing multiple projects of various types and complexities

  • Experience leading a team thorough all phases of a project

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with demonstrated relevant project experience

  • Licensed Electrical Engineer (registered with PEO)

  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills

  • Exceptional technical knowledge of Ontario Electrical Safety Code, ESA bulletins, building construction and the Ontario Building Code

  • Ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work within a team environment

  • Ability to co-ordinate with a multi-disciplinary in-house consultant team

  • Multi-tasking is very important for this position, combined with attention to detail, time management and organizational skills

  • Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), Outlook, Adobe

  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning

  • Candidate must be dedicated to working hard with an all-hands-on-deck attitude towards completing the work efficiently and accurately
