Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Transportation Department Manager for immediate employment and may be based out of our Austin Texas or Houston Texas office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in capturing and developing Transportation related projects through all stages, managing work/staff balance, developing teams and managing groups in multiple offices. The Transportation Department Manager is a key position and will report to the Transportation Area Business Unit Leader (ABUL). This position will have multiple direct reports that in turn have subordinates averaging 60 in number. The position includes responsibility for indirect business development, marketing, and managing AECOM staff including professional development, staff leveling, and teaming. AECOM clients include TxDOT, as well as counties, municipalities, regional planning agencies, and other agencies in Texas. The successful candidate may be asked to serve as a senior leader and work collaboratively with others in AECOM’s Texas based offices to coordinate workload needs.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage work and staff to meet the needs of our clients by servicing our contracts

  • Provide direction to direct reports and manage requests

  • Conduct and attend various management meetings

  • Provide technical assistance in developing and planning projects

  • Responsible for professional staff career development

  • Provide assistance to ABUL by developing action plans on projects with challenges

  • Provide senior leadership to staff and the ability to supervise entry level engineers

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent

  • 13+ years of transportation experience involving state and local facilities including highways/roadways, structures, drainage facilities, and related infrastructure improvements, including 3+ years in a supervisory role

  • Registered Professional Engineer in Texas or the ability to obtain with six months

  • Experience working with counties, municipalities, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and other agencies in Texas

  • Experience in business development, marketing and management of major clients

  • Experience mentoring and supervising staff

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to conduct business development activities including client management, proposal preparation, interviews and business planning

  • Must be detail oriented, thorough, and well organized, as well as have the ability to effectively manage time

  • Must be able to work well in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Willingness for periodic travel within Texas, primarily between Houston and Austin

  • Project experience in Texas

  • Willingness to attend professional society and organizational meetings to further career development
