Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented, energetic, and personable GIS professional for immediate employment in the Houston, Texas office. The GIS professional will support the Water business line and other internal and external clients. Work will include a wide variety of projects including environmental, water/wastewater, water resources, transportation, and more.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Edit, manage, and analyze geospatial data using the ESRI suite of products; electronic and hardcopy documents will be generated

  • Produce spatial and non-spatial data related to environmental, hydrological, and other engineering reports

  • Review technical requirements to meet data development standards and implement quality assurance tasks

  • Prepare datasets for use in ArcGIS for Server, Portal for GIS, and/or ArcGIS Online web-based platforms

  • Manage GIS related mobile field data collection tasks

  • Review and update infrastructure asset information in data systems, such as for water and wastewater

  • Conduct spatial and raster analysis

  • Create and manage custom geodatabases

  • Create maps and graphics for reports and field work following predefined GIS data standards and specifications

  • Document procedures and develop metadata

  • Streamline and automate routine mapping processes and tasks when applicable

  • Market GIS services to external clients

  • Work cooperatively with a wide range of staff at various levels within the organization

  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, GIS, engineering, or related field, or demonstrated equivalent ability and/or experience

  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Extensive knowledge of databases and GIS technology, including

  • ESRI suite of software

  • Spatial Analysis & ArcToolbox Tools

  • Repetitive task scripting using Python, Visual Basic, shell scripts, and/or other programming languages to create automated workflows

  • Mapping and analysis to create report figures

  • Thorough knowledge of cartographic principles, map projections, and coordinate systems

  • Experience creating, managing, and supporting web-based GIS services (ArcGIS for Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online)

  • Knowledge of GPS mobile field data collection techniques, digital form development, photograph and video file management

  • Experience setting up and managing ArcGIS Server

  • Experience in software development lifecycle management

  • Strong ability to work independently

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Solid communication skills

  • Proactive and resourceful problem-solving skills

  • Proficient in technical writing

Preferred Qualifications

  • GISP certification

  • Coding knowledge

  • Working knowledge of a common task automation software: Python, SQL preferred

  • Programming skills that include SQL, Python, Visual Basic

  • Experience with Data Interoperability ArcGIS extension

  • Project management experience
