Job Summary

The Role

Our Water team in Hamilton is involved in delivering the most exciting water resource and infrastructure region shaping projects for town and country across water supply, irrigation, groundwater, wastewater, flood management and stormwater, for urban development, rural production and land protection, road, rail, ports, airports, and defence. We work across the private and public sectors. Due to an increasing number of wins in our Water business, we are excited to be growing our Water team in Hamilton. We are looking for a Principal Water Resources Scientist or Engineer in Hamilton to assist in growing our water resources practice and support our water infrastructure business.

Our business includes studies, modelling, all stages of design, and consenting support for water allocation, yield assessment, dams, flood management, groundwater, irrigation, urban development services in network planning and design for water, wastewater and recycled water networks, waterway health and restoration, flood engineering, and all transport infrastructures.

This is a unique opportunity to grow a portfolio of large water resource projects for councils, agriculture, horticulture, mining, industry, and utility and developer clients.

You will be a part of our industry leading Three Waters business and lead and contribute to the delivery of a wide range of projects that provide great outcomes for our clients.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Management of teams including oversight of reports, specifications, and drafting of drawings for water resources studies and modelling, and concept design of hydraulic structures, dams, watershed improvement projects, road and rail hydraulic structures, flood and drainage pump stations, stream restoration projects, and water quality treatment systems.

  • Prepare methodologies and estimate associated effort in tendering and delivery stages.

  • Communicating with various internal clients and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes to client's requirements

  • Assist maintaining and growing existing clientele relations

  • Technical mentor to younger professional scientists/engineers..

Minimum Requirements

About You:

  • More than seven years of experience in the water industry including the private and/or public sectors

  • Ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervision and guidance

  • Ability to realise and manage scope creep and possess excellent time management skills

  • Proficiency in a variety of water resource software packages

  • Demonstrated experience in some of;

o Hydrologic data acquisition and management

o Hydrologic analysis for flow estimation and storage optimisation

o Development of hydrologic and hydraulic models in a GIS based environment

o Flood modelling, flood mapping and flood risk assessment

o Erosion, scour and sedimentation in rivers and reservoirs

o Drought assessment and water allocation

o Stormwater quality and treatment device selection, design and construction

o Design of green infrastructure - bioretention ponds, bioswales, filter strips, and porous pavement

o Evaluation of hydraulic structures for compliance - dam safety, and erosion and sediment control;

o Site investigations of civil structures, construction monitoring and testing.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors / Masters degree in environmental Engineering or water resources
