Position Title Structural Designer I

AECOM – Technical Services is seeking a Structural Designer to be based in our Denver, CO location.
The Structural Designer responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project's discipline engineers. Candidate responsibilities will include the development and maintenance of the plant physical Tekla model and the development of engineering drawings and sketches of moderate complexity.
Level Specific Responsibilities:
Works to project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards and procedures.
Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project.
Prepares complete information for design details, bill of materials, etc., that can be distributed to other design or draft personnel for completion.
Understands project scope as presented within a specific discipline.
Ensures that designs are consistent with project technical requirements and scope.
Provides support for customer's engineering deliverables.
Advises the Design Supervisor, Lead Designer or Supervising Discipline Engineer about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems.
Checks assigned drawings supplied by vendors, customers and other discipline groups throughout the project to ensure quality designs.
Provides technical guidance and assistance to other design and draft personnel and is responsible for neatness and accuracy of work.
Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned design tasks.
Plans and schedules design tasks associated with assigned project.
Keeps proper files and records related to assigned design activities.
Understands and uses computer software and applications associated with design assignments.
Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training.
Develops an understanding of the role of each of the other disciplines in Engineering.
Supports alignment of customer and company objectives.
Under direct supervision, completes design assignments of limited complexity.
Applies a basic level of understanding within a specific discipline.
Familiarity with codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline.
Familiar with the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.
Basic understanding of the purpose and use of vendor documents as reference for assigned tasks.
Can assist in performing material take-offs for the discipline.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
- Associate degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
A minimum 2+ years of progressive structural design and or fabrication experience with an Associate degree.
Without an Associate Degree 6 years of progressive structural design and or fabrication experience is required.
In depth knowledge of Tekla Structures including advanced coursework.
In depth knowledge of Tekla connection design and steel detailing.
Experience in heavy industrial steel and concrete design experience.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other general plant modeling / drafting CAD software platform.
Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain a security clearance.
Associate Degree in computer aided drafting with a structural emphasis or equivalent experience.
Working knowledge of design development, drawing preparation, and checking procedures.
Functional knowledge of building and major equipment foundation systems.
Working knowledge of model interference detection and resolution.
Basic understanding of engineering calculations and information required on design drawings.
Working knowledge of material estimating.
Basic knowledge of discipline Material Take Off (MTO) activities using manual methods and computer applications.
Knowledge of project change control process.
Working knowledge of general 3D modeling software.
Reinforced concrete mat and slab experience.
Plant 2D and 3D design experience.
Basic knowledge of SmartPlant.
Basic knowledge of Microstation and PDS Frameworks software.
This position is not eligible for relocation benefits.
