Job Summary

The Transportation Group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Ecologist for immediate employment in the Greenville, SC office. The candidate will join an excellent team with significant career growth potential. The candidate will not be required to reside in Georgia or work out of the Atlanta office, but must be willing to travel when required.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs unsupervised field tasks, such as stream and wetland delineations, habitat assessments, threatened and endangered species surveys

  • Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports; compiles and organizes environmental data collected by others

  • Prepares basic data and scientific documents to include maps/figures, technical reports, agency coordination, NEPA documents, and permit applications

  • Works under supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision

  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, and related disciplines)

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Strong technical/scientific writing skills

  • Functional knowledge of ArcGIS software

  • Ability to convey thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise manner

  • Experienced ability to conduct field surveys and delineate wetlands/streams according US Army Corps of Engineers standards and make GA EPD state waters/buffers determinations. Minimum of 3 years required with this skill

  • Superior knowledge of southeastern flora, fauna, and natural systems

  • Superior knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework

  • Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner

  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, and related disciplines)

  • Previous environmental consulting experience

  • Experience preparing GDOT ecology documents

  • Experience with NEPA planning/implementation, particularly as it relates to transportation is a plus

  • Willingness to expand professional experience/qualifications beyond current area of expertise
