Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a motivated, talented Transportation Technician for employment in the Grand Rapids, MI office. The incumbent will work both in the field and in the office. The qualified candidate will demonstrate the ability to perform construction inspection and minor material testing on road and bridge construction projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform construction administration and inspection, and related assignments for Michigan Department of Transportation owned and local agency owned transportation facilities

  • Concrete pavement Inspection

  • HMA Inspection

  • Aggregate Inspection

  • Structural concrete inspection

  • Structural steel inspection

  • Other bridge related inspection

  • Grade checks

  • MOT layout and inspection verifying that proper traffic control measures are implemented

  • Traffic Signal inspection

  • Permanent signing inspection

  • Underground inspection

  • Creating Inspector Daily Reports and associated calculations and sketches

  • Perform wage rate interviews

  • Monitor and record the work and progress of contractors, and

  • Tracking material quality and usage

  • Quantity takeoffs

  • Materials testing

  • Assist Office Technician and supervisor as necessary

  • In-service bridge inspections may also be performed

  • Readily and proactively communicate with AECOM supervisors and peers, MDOT and local agency personnel, contractor personnel and the general public

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher.

  • Night and weekend work may be required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 0-2 years' experience performing field work on transportation construction projects

  • Excellent computer skills required including but not limited to spreadsheet creation & manipulation, word processing & web knowledge

  • Interpersonal, organizational & communication skills

  • Detail orientated with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently and effectively

  • Motivated, quick learner with proficiency in basic math
