Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Risk Assessor for immediate employment in the Germantown, MD office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare human health risk assessment reports under various regulatory programs (CERCLA, RCRA, and other state/provincial regulatory programs)

  • Manage environmental data and database queries for use in risk assessments

  • Complete quantitative CERCLA / RCRA human health risk assessments using sampling data for various media including soil (discrete and incremental), groundwater, sediment, surface water, and biota

  • Perform statistical analysis with complex datasets (ProUCL)

  • Conduct scientific literature searches and perform critical review and compilation of site documentation for use in risk assessments for CERCLA, RCRA and State Superfund sites

  • Develop conceptual site exposure models

  • Evaluate exposure to lead for various receptors (IEUBK and ALM)

  • Conduct vapor intrusion investigations and risk assessments

  • Provide tasks related to human health risk support as required (e.g., prepare sections for other CERCLA documents; Work Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Feasibility Studies, Proposed Plans, and RODs/DDs)

  • Interact with AECOM senior risk assessors and project managers and external clients to understand and develop details of risk assessment objectives, detailed scope, and budgets

  • Contribute to proposals to win new work for projects that include a risk assessment component; Evaluate options and make recommendations to support risk-based closure strategies

  • Maintain up-to-date technical expertise in risk assessment and follow regulatory developments

  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Toxicology, Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Public Health or related scientific discipline

  • 4+ years of consulting risk assessment experience

  • Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, experimentation, research, and documentation

  • Understanding of and experience applying human health risk assessment principles and procedures as well as EPA, DoD, and State risk assessment guidance

  • Ability and experience in developing compliance strategies and site closure strategies based on detailed understanding of regulations, policies and guidance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's in Toxicology, Biology, Biochemistry, Public Health or related scientific discipline

  • 5+ years of consulting risk assessment experience
