About the Business Line
We create comprehensive delivery solutions for water, wastewater and wet weather systems, desalination, water resources, water reuse, tunneling, and community infrastructure through traditional and alternative delivery services such as program management and design-build.
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer for employment in the Germantown, MD office. Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer:
Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks
Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities
Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids
Perform geotechnical analyses including slope stability, seepage, settlement, shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, and seismic
Conduct field exploration, collect samples, analyze data and review geotechnical samples for laboratory testing
Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues
Perform geotechnical tasks and working closely with other disciplines to meet the project needs
Oversight and management of a variety of subsurface investigation programs
Adhere to AECOM safety culture and maintaining safe work environment
Assign geotechnical laboratory testing
Perform design calculations for pavements, shallow and deep foundation, tunnel components, and retaining walls, temporary and permanent support of excavation
Perform settlement analysis, ground improvement analyses, slope stability analyses, seepage analyses,
Prepare of engineering reports and memoranda
Perform construction oversight
Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical engineering or other related field required
Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as : Excel, Word, gINT, MicroStation, GeoStudio and AutoCAD and/or Civil3D)
Thorough understanding of the concepts of soil mechanics
Experience with pavement design, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability
Experience with gINT, Geostudio and pavement design software
Ability to work in inclement weather
Ability to lift 50 lb
Must possess a valid driver's license
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred
Master’s degree in Geotechnical engineering
Knowledge of geology within Virginia, Maryland and District of Columbia
Experience in monitoring fill placement, pile driving and general geotechnical construction
Demonstrated hands-on experience of conducting large scale subsurface investigations using various drilling methodologies.
Experience with geotechnical laboratory testing.
Experience with installation and monitoring of instrumentation
Experience with technical report writing
Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills
