Job Summary

The PM/CM Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Design Manager for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. The Design Manager for the K-12 CIP Program will representing the owner’s interests working with third party architects, engineers, and associated consultants approved by the owner to ensure all projects assigned to AECOM meet or exceed programmatic and budget parameters defined by the owner. This position is contingent upon award of contract.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Reports to the Program Director/ Deputy Program Director

  • Direct management of design standards, process and reviews

  • Carries the directives from Program Director to CIP Team

  • Developing, managing, and coordinating the overall design process for an overall capital program valued in excess of $250 million

  • Developing and implementing appropriate criteria and tools to properly orient design teams

  • Conducting and coordinating milestone reviews, documenting compliance and/or non-compliance with design standards

  • Working with the design teams to identify and resolve design related issues and providing corrective action to bring the projects into compliance

  • Identifying and reporting scope variations to the project team to resolve and align design with scope and budget

  • Assuring project is in conformance with contractual requirements

  • Assuring all design submissions meet quality standards set forth by the program and AECOM

  • Evaluating architectural issues and problems as they arise and monitoring design team responses

  • Reporting progress to the project managers and program manager on a regular basis

  • Providing appropriate feedback loops to continuously improve the design review process and maintaining quality implement and integration of best practices

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management, Engineering, or other related field

  • 10+ years of professional experience managing facilities design, or planning and coordination of capital projects; including overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities, including 5+ years of experience with the design, planning and construction of educational facilities or similar public organizations

  • Prior K12 experience

  • Must be a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Highly motivated self-starter

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English

  • This position requires a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry recognized certification in Design Management or Design Reviews

  • Progressive Experience in construction design and development, preferably K-12, of which shall include five (5) years of experience of direct management of project managers/ project delivery/ project delivery/ project controls and reporting

  • Possess highly developed interpersonal, analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills

  • Demonstrate the ability to manage in a diverse and dynamic environment with short-notice tasking under high pressure situations
