Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a SH&E Advisor to be based in our Fort McMurray, Alberta location.

This position will report to the EHS Lead and assigned to a defined geographic area of responsibility. The incumbent provides “hands on” and site level EHS technical expertise. Seeks continuous improvement of all EHS processes, maintaining a risk based approach to support a company culture that “all incidents can be prevented”. The incumbent must possess strong problem solving, interpersonal, project management and communication (oral & written) skills.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • Work with the EHS Lead to develop strong EHS professional skills.

  • Assists in the development of EHS strategies and implements corporate initiatives focusing on safety.

  • Act as a resource providing EHS support for line management and personnel within assigned area.

  • Develop/implement EHS procedures for successful project completion.

  • Support, develop and deliver EHS training.

  • Implement and communicate all necessary EHS strategies within assigned area.

  • Conduct routine EHS inspections (formal and non-formal) within assigned area of responsibility.

  • Monitors EHS performance, data/statistical reporting and trends for possible impacts on EHS performance.

  • Audit processes to ensure efficiency, effectiveness and consistency.

  • Work with EHS lead and line management to develop an EHS culture that truly believe in the goal that “all incidents can be prevented”.

  • Influences others through consistent model management: “walks the talk” philosophies, solid business fundamentals and sound ethics.

  • Challenges the way we do business, sees the big picture and keeps an eye on long-term success by turning safety challenges into meaningful direction.

  • Coach and mentor EHS Advisors/Representatives.

  • Attend coordination/client meetings as directed by EHS Lead.

This position will be required to drive a vehicle on behalf of AECOM and therefore will require the candidate to submit a satisfactory driver's abstract for review.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum Formal Education Required: Post-Secondary Diploma/Certificate – Post secondary certification from an accredited college, university or technical institution in Environmental Health and Safety

  • Professional Designation: Required – CSO – Construction Safety Officer

  • Minimum Experience Required: 1-3 years – In an industrial, maintenance and/or construction environment.

  • A valid Class 1 or Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract are requirements of this position
