Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. Job Summary

As a part of our continued growth, our Edmonton office has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Buildings & Places business line. The Buildings and Places Team is a vibrant and growing business line which delivers project management, architectural and engineering services as well as planning and economic analysis for vertical construction projects. The role of the successful candidate will provide a suitable blend and balance of technical and non-technical responsibilities including staff management, business development, project management as well as project technical leadership.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the preparation, execution and delivery of approved financial business plans

  • Effectively manage projects on time and on budget with quality meeting client expectations

  • Support cross-selling initiatives and proposal development between business lines and geographies within the organization

  • Ensure compliance of technical and quality standards

  • Lead compliance with corporate safety goals and initiatives

  • Support development and execution of geographic and business line strategy

  • Assist with identifying and promoting growth in key strategic markets as well as with key strategic clients

  • Promote mentor / mentee relationships through the engagement of both junior and senior staff

  • Contribute significantly to the successful design, production, coordination and management of buildings projects

  • Communicates effectively with clients and internal team members in the design and specification development of mechanical building systems

  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs

  • Ensure that engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices

  • Work closely with other discipline Engineers, Architects, Designers and Project Managers as a key team player within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team

Minimum Requirements

  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer or other Professional Engineering body in Canada

  • 10+ years' experience, preferably in building systems with a minimum of 7 years' experience in a management capacity leading a team of professionals

  • Working knowledge of applicable local and national building codes and common mechanical engineering software

  • Must have a well-rounded background in mechanical project design (industrial and commercial) and delivery to meet various challenges

  • Background in building mechanical design (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, process and Building Automation Systems)

  • Strong interpersonal communications skills

  • Strong project management skills

  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering various projects in complexity and size/scope

  • Valid driver's license

  • Willing to travel to other cities as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20+ years' experience preferred

  • Member of ASHRAE

  • Member of ASPE

  • Member of APEGA

  • Experienced with Industrial design and MR process

  • Experienced with Managing multi-disciplinary projects of varying size ($5M to $100M)

  • Experienced with Industrial PFD & PID’s

  • Experienced with LEED design

  • Experienced with ASHRAE 90.1 Design

  • Experienced with EE4 and eQuest

  • P3 and/or Design Build Experience
