Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to be based in our Edmonton, Alberta location.

This position will report to the Payroll Manager.This a senior level payroll position that is responsible for supervising the day to day payroll activities ensuring employees are paid accurately and timely. This position must have extensive technical and practical  

knowledge of JDE, company policies, internal controls, SOX, government regulations and legislation. The ability to prioritize multiple activities with tight deadlines while performing accurately is a requirement.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • Supervising day to day payroll activities through coaching, mentoring direct reports and providing technical guidance

  • Ability to review current processes, recommend and design changes to improve and standardize workflow. This may require testing and implementing new applications or enhancing existing applications. Attention to detail is a necessity as this often requires updates to payroll system

  • Assisting with strategic planning and implementing changes 

  • Processing payroll scorecard and using information to enhance processes  

  • Ensuring that self and reports adhere to payroll policies and processes  

  • Keeping up to date with government changes and legislation 

  • Ensuring all processes are documented, reviewed-and provide expertise and training to Payroll Team Leads, Payroll Administrators

  • Reviewing all reconciliations monthly 

  • Investigating anomalies and assisting with process enhancements and changes

  • Processing T4 and T2200 forms

  • Review WCB quarterly and annual reconciliations and remittances

  • Review NWT and MB year end reconciliations

  • Adhoc reporting as required by Corporate Payroll, internal and external customers

  • Semi-annual performance reviews with direct reports

  • Semi-annual development of development plans

  • Organizing team work loads to cope with peak processing requirements

  • Managing staff workflow

  • Ensuring appropriate staff cover is available for periods of absences through sickness and holidays

  • Reviewing variance analysis for Corporate Payroll

Minimum Requirements

Diploma in Finance or Accounting or combination of years and experience

PCP or CPM designation or combination of years and experience

Minimum of 10 years payroll experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrates attention to detail

  • Understands and adheres to payroll rules and is current with legislation

  • Understands and adheres to company policies 

  • Expert in Microsoft office

  • Proficient in JD Edwards

  • Experience in Oracle EBS

  • Solid understanding of payroll accounting

  • Previous experience of account reconciliation, including a strong understanding of statutory returns

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent people skills including the ability to mentor, coach and influence team members

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas,data and results in an easy to understand format
