Job Summary

AECOM is currently recruiting for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to join our well-established and experienced ‘Scotland & Ireland’ ground engineering team based in Edinburgh, depending upon experience you will join at either Senior or Principal level.

Nationally our Ground Engineering team comprises some 175 staff and we work closely with our Geo-environmental, Hydrogeology and Tunnelling teams on a wide variety of projects in the UK and overseas. Currently the team is working on projects in many sectors including development, road, rail, nuclear, renewables, marine and water. We work for leading clients in all these sectors notably Transport Scotland, Transport Northern Ireland, Irish Transport Authority, Highways England, Network Rail, HCA, Thames Water and Local Government Departments as well as leading contractors and developers.

AECOM’s Scotland and Ireland geotechnical team currently consists of >35 geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists based in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast. The team is responsible for providing geotechnical input to a variety of projects in infrastructure, power and building sectors within Scotland, nationally across the UK and internationally.

Within the role you will be responsible for:

• Maintaining and developing relationships with internal and external clients;

• Design of geotechnical works including ground investigations, new and widened earthworks, soil and rock slope remedial works, shallow and deep foundations, retaining systems, buried structures and ground improvement measures.

• Technical delivery of desk study reports, ground investigations, GIRs, GDRs, fulfilling of TA and DSR and TA roles and delivery of all relevant technical specifications and construction drawings;

• Overseeing and checking the work of junior members of staff;

• Mentoring junior staff and acting in role as line manager;

• Carrying out regular design reviews in accordance with the Quality Management System;

• Preparing proposals and tenders relevant to the business;

• Undertaking the role of Project Manager to ensure delivery of work packages on time and on budget;

• Due to the location of some of the projects you must be willing to travel within the UK and undertake short assignments in the UK and overseas.

Minimum Requirements

To be successful in this role we're looking specifically for an experienced geotechnical engineer or engineering geologist with a proven track record in the successful technical delivery of projects.

The ability to write clear and concise technical reports is an essential requirement.

You will be a chartered engineer or chartered geologist and will be able to demonstrate a range of ground engineering skills.

Due to the nature of this role a valid UK driving licence is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

First degree in Civil Engineering / Geology or similar background will be considered.

A relevant post graduate qualification such as an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology would be an advantage.
