Job Summary

AECOM is seeking to hire an Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Dublin.The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will deliver consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget.

Job duties :

  • Scoping, tendering and supervision of ground investigations

  • Data interpretation, parameter derivation and design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks and ground improvement

  • Contribute or lead the production of desk study, interpretive, design reports, technical notes and input to specification and contract documentation

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary design team interfacing directly with other ground engineering team members, other internal design teams from various disciplines and contractors;

  • You will take responsibility for delivery of small projects or parts of projects under senior guidance and will assist in the internal checking and review of work by other members of the geotechnical team. In due course you will become involved in bidding for jobs and programme and budget control.

  • You will have strong development skills and the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and teaching to junior staff, if and when required

Specific Skills :

  • We are looking for an ambitious, dependable, and professional person who is capable both of working independently and as part of multi-discipline teams. This person should be innovative, provide buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding.

  • The right candidate will be able to demonstrate personal examples of problem solving, and thorough understanding of how ground engineering interfaces with the other multi-disciplinary teams in complex or challenging projects.

  • You will be numerate and have experience in solving a full range of ground engineering problems. You will also be experienced in using routine design software for data manipulation, assessment of soil settlement, soil and rock slope stability and for design of foundations and retaining structures.

  • The ability to write clear and concise technical reports is an essential requirement.

  • You will be able to demonstrate a range of ground engineering skills and be familiar with both Irish and UK design standards. Candidates will have the potential and desire to progress to a more senior position.

  • Due to the location of some of the projects, you must be willing to travel within Ireland and undertake short assignments in Britain and overseas: a valid driving licence is essential.

Minimum Requirements

  • The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the industry with a demonstrable experience in the technical support of projects and be conversant with the standards that apply.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering although individuals with an Engineering Geology or similar background will be considered.

  • Chartered Civil Engineer or Engineering Geologist, preferably with a higher degree in Ground Engineering related subject.
