AECOM (UK) business unit, trading as “Delivering Procurement Services for Aid (“DPSA”) is a service for procuring goods and equipment to support aid and humanitarian organisations in the delivery of aid programmes worldwide. DPSA sources and delivers goods and equipment, pairing best-value suppliers with customers to minimise costs and transit times.
DPSA is looking for a Commercial / Contracts Assistant to assist with the commercial aspects of the DPSA business, working to legal counsel. The ideal candidate will have proven experience supporting lawyers drafting and preparing contracts relating to the supply of goods and services. We seek someone who can prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a busy, international work environment and who enjoys working in such a fast-paced and high-growth setting. A keen eye for detail and commercial awareness are both essential qualities, as well as solid risk management and organization skills. This person should be someone who can use his or her judgment and critical thinking to closely support our commercial and legal team with contract reviews and preparation and will be able to draw on previous experience to help us manage our contractual risk. It is imperative that this person thrives working independently, but can work collaboratively.
Assist lawyer with drafting a wide variety of contracts, forms, policies and important communications
Be able or quickly develop skills to discuss contract terms with various internal business partners
Edit existing standard forms and governance documents
Explain terms and conditions, etc. internal staff, being able to identify gaps in your knowledge and escalate accordingly
Finalize complex contract documents when terms agreed with lawyers
Monitor deadlines and conditions described on contracts are met (e.g. payments), as required
Help to maintain organized system of physical and digital records
Assist with researching and anticipating legal issues that could impact the company
Assist with training to internal staff on legal topics
Proven work experience as a Contract or Commercial assistant, paralegal or similar role
Familiarity of legal requirements involved with contracts, particularly in an international setting buying and reselling goods and equipment.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in English
Keen attention to detail, with an ability to spot errors
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Minimum 2.1 degree in either law, commerce or similar qualification; an additional qualification in law or risk management would be a major bonus
Strong work ethic
Problem solving abilities essential
Proven excellent skills with Microsoft Office, Excel and Powerpoint
- Knowledge of doing business in Africa and / or international development would be a bonus, although not an absolute requirement.
