Job Summary

The Safety Health & Environment Engineer (SH&E) will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining project contractor's compliance with project requirements, local SH&E regulations and the contractor's own SH&E plan.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the field point of contact for monitoring and maintaining compliance with contractors' own SH&E Policies and plans.

  • Monitoring policies, procedures, programs and standards affecting construction SH&E.

  • Attending site SH&E meetings.

  • Assisting management in meeting established SH&E goals and objectives.

  • Reviewing and assessing the security, fire, first aid and welfare facilities and procedures appropriate to the works and checking that the same are provided and adequately maintained.

  • Reviewing SH&E requirements in method statements and permit to work procedures submitted by the Contractor.

  • Ensuring that all agreed SH&E standards and applicable safety regulations are complied with.

  • Determining causes of unsafe conditions through procedure review, equipment and facilities inspection and worker observation with corrective action recommendations provided via verbal instruction and formal reporting via the project reporting system.

  • Investigating all accidents and occurrences and reporting in accordance with Client requirements.

  • Performing other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

  • 10+ years of related professional work experience in the construction SH&E field

  • Middle East experience required

  • Relevant experience in comparable Roads and Highways projects

  • Familiarity with utilities, road and highways related works is required.

  • Previous Dubai Municipality and/or RTA approval is preferred

  • Excellent working knowledge of industry practises and SH&E management systems.

  • Up to date knowledge of all issues relating to Safety, Health and Environment in the Middle East.

  • High level of numerical skills.

  • High level of literacy skills in English.

  • Clear verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc Degree in Engineering

  • Diploma in Occupational Safety or in a related field.

  • Preferred designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP / CMIOSH) or working towards this.

  • NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma required.

  • Previous RTA approval is preferrable
