Job Summary

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Director to join our rail team in Dubai working on key highways and bridges construction projects.

As a construction expert with the world's #1 ranked engineering design firm, you will be exposed to a range of projects and stakeholders providing you with an opportunity to apply your experience on major to mega roads and infrastructure projects. You will work efficiently in an autonomous environment as well as contributing as part of the wider Civil and Infrastructure and AECOM team.

  • Establishes the Project Execution Plan, Health & Safety Plan, Control Plan and other documents.

  • Establishes the program requirements for all areas of the project, and monitors the draft and final deliverables for adherence to these criteria.

  • Establishes weekly meeting to review project status and formulate actions items.

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this positions as may be appropriate.

  • Monitors and reports to management on the progress of all projects activities within the program, including significant milestones, and any conditions, which would affect project cost or schedules.

  • Acts as the Company representative for all day to day Contract matters with the Client during the program execution. Understands and develops Client’s Brief. Negotiates changes to the scope of work with the client and contractors. Responsible for following up on instructions & commitments associated with the project.

  • Takes an active, personal role in the establishment, implementation and management of project Safety Management Systems and Procedures.

  • Oversees establishment of Package / Project specific briefs, contracts and procedures. Manages matters that cross between interfacing elements, projects or Business Lines.

  • Establishes the program requirements for all areas of the project, and monitors the draft and final deliverables for adherence to these criteria.

  • Plans, directs, supervises and controls the execution of all business, technical, fiscal and administrative functions of the assigned projects.

  • Develops construction budgets, schedules and plans for the various elements of a project.

  • Supports in the Procurement of other Consultants and Contractors on behalf of the Client.

  • Assists in devising and execution of actions plans to rectify potential cost overruns or schedule delays, or to accommodate significant changes to the scope of work.

  • Liaison with Technical Services and Shared services personnel for delivery of design, costs, schedules and overall project support.

  • Establishes regular meeting to review package status, formulate action items and follows up on close out.

  • Works proactively, constructively and fairly with all parties to ensure the successful execution of the project,

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

  • Responsible for all Contract activities and commercial performance to meet project goals & objectives.

  • Responsible for managing Safety and Quality performance of projects.

  • Oversees establishment of Project Execution Plan, Health & Safety Plan, Control Plan and other documents.

  • Establishes the program requirements for all areas of the project, and monitors the draft and final deliverables for adherence to these criteria.

  • Ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Assurance policies and procedures

  • Collaborate on Value Engineering designed to ensure the Contract Drawings fulfill program requirements for performance, quality, aesthetics, and budget at a reasonable life cycle cost

  • Ensure that construction progress meets the overall project schedule requirements.

  • Contribute to the advancement of through commitment to productive collaboration with all stakeholders

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants would ideally have a minimum of 20 years of experience within similar large scale projects that include overall Project Management experience

  • Experience 5-10 years in Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Projects is required

  • Middle East/GCC experience preferred

  • Good working knowledge of Internationally-accepted Project Management, construction industry principle and practices / safety / quality management systems.

  • Understanding of claims and construction law. Seeks advice as appropriate.

  • Good knowledge of design processes and systems.

  • Good knowledge of current construction technology.

  • High level of critical thinking, problem solving, numeracy and English literacy skills.

  • Good negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization.

  • Clear verbal communication skills.

  • Uses diplomacy and tact in discussions with other parties. Contributes to team building and enhancing morale across the team / project.

  • High level of computer literacy

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc, BEng or MEng degree in a relevant discipline

  • Experience 5-10 years in Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)

  • Specific Project Management training & qualification and Membership of a Chartered Institution preferred MICE/ MCIOB/ MRICS or working towards
