Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Material Engineer for a Major Highway project in Doha, Qatar. The ideal candidate will have previous experience with Pump Stations, drainage and utilities.The Material Engineer is responsible for checking the compliance of all construction materials used on the project with the Project Works Authority (PWA) requirements and current standards.s.

The Material Engineer ensures that all materials used and submitted for approval by the Contractor comply with the PWA’s requirements and current standards. In performing the task of approval and compliance testing the Material Engineer is expected to:

  • Assist with the review of the material approval submittals by the Contractor;

  • Monitor that all materials are tested to the required standards and specified frequency;

  • Review all the Contractor’s test results and confirm the accuracy;

  • Report any failing or 'borderline' test results immediately to the Senior Material Engineer for escalation. The Contractor will be given a Non-Conformance Report (NCR) by the Senior Material Engineer that the work or materials must be re-tested, remedied or removed, as appropriate;

  • Ensure non-compliant works are re-tested, remedied or removed and NCR’s are closed out by the Contractor;

  • Coordinate with the Contractor on work priorities and schedules;

  • Supervise the Contractor’s sampling and testing; and,

  • Liaise with the QA/QC Engineer to flag and rectify any issues which may affect the quality of the Works.

Senior Material Engineers liaise closely with the Contractor's staff. They must, however, maintain their independence, as they are responsible for working in the best interests of the Project Works Authority.

Minimum Requirements

A minimum 10 years of relevant experience and qualification in Materials and Quality Control in major highway projects.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful applicant should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited University
