Job Summary

AECOM is looking for a GIS Specialist II to work as an on-site contractor at a client site to provide GIS data management and analysis services.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting editing procedures in ArcMap, working with ArcSDE versioned, enterprise geodatabases, and formatting data to the Spatial Database Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE) data model standards, creating and maintaining Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata format, working with users to troubleshoot ArcMap and ArcCatalog operational processes, entry of data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases using techniques such as coordinate geometry scanning and georeferencing of images, automatic conversion to vectors and conversion of other sources of digital data

  • Provide technical support for the creation and visualization of data layers and map products using ArcGIS software products

  • Will update the GIS master database layers for spatial geometry and attributes and the metadata associated with each GIS data layer

  • Generate/regenerate standard map products and maintain, update and document GIS data standards and the specifications for digital data deliverables

  • Conduct and consult on data needs assessments

  • Perform ad hoc analyses and create ad hoc map products

  • Review technical requirements to meet data development objectives and perform quality assurance on data deliverables received for inclusion in the GIS

  • Provide consultation for GIS strategic planning and resolution of issues, technical assistance and training and liaison support with Installation GI&S Manager and other installation clients

  • Manage GIS web site content and other systems and maintain a GIS Program Binder on-line and hardcopy detailing documentation that captures the processes and actions involved in completing assigned duties listed above

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, planning, engineering, computer science, or a related technical field with emphasis in geographic information systems (GIS)

  • 2+ years of ArcGIS desktop GIS experience

  • Must show propensity in developing Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) compliant metadata

  • Must be able to clearly demonstrate the following capabilities:

  • Advanced editing (Use of topology, three dimensional editing, COGO, advance drawing tool)

  • Raster data processing

  • Geographic analysis (Buffer, clip, finding what is within an area or distance, etc)

  • Versioned editing

  • Disconnected editing

  • Must have the ability to work with a team of professionals and have excellent time management skills

  • Will be required to work independently and communicate directly with customers from environmental, public works, engineering and other business areas

  • Very limited travel may be required

  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) secret security clearance

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ArcSDE and versioned environments

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Familiarity with the Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE)
