Job Summary

AECOM’s Buildings + Places division is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Landscape Architect for immediate full time employment in the Coral Gables, Florida office. This position may include functioning as the District Landscape Architect (DLA) for the Florida Department of Transportation, District 6 under a General Engineering Consultant contract, whereas AECOM is a consultant to FDOT and may be requested to provide in-house staff for the District 6 office. This position may also provide opportunities for work on resort, leisure, streetscape, and other public realm projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • If functioning as a DLA, work under the direct supervision of the Manager of the District’s Highway Beautification Program which may include, but not be limited to: planning (PD&E), design and construction for highway beautification related projects or projects involving aesthetics, bridges, roadways and stormwater management facilities, traffic calming, pedestrian and bicycle safety, complete streets, operations and maintenance facilities, wildflowers, irrigation and water management, permitting, utility coordination, maintenance, vegetation management, tree pruning and removal, relocation and protection, selective clearing and grubbing and maintenance agreements, joint participation agreements (JPA) and local agency programs (LAP) with City and County government agencies

  • Programming Landscape Projects per Florida Statue and in accordance with the FDOT Highway Beautification Policy

  • Provide review of scope of services and staff hour estimates for planning and design projects

  • Prepare cost estimates for construction and work program budgeting

  • Participate in the review and comment cycles of plans review procedures

  • Attend local coordination meetings with public officials and stakeholders

  • Attend public meetings and workshops when Landscape issues are included

  • Assist in aesthetics review and landscape conflict with regard to sound walls

  • Create punch lists for final inspections on landscape portions of FDOT, LAP, JPA and Landscape Permit Projects Conduct Warranty Inspections of FDOT landscape/irrigation projects

  • Develop presentations to assist local communities when developing their grant applications for the Florida Highway Beautification Council Grant

  • Define construction document requirements, schedule, and establishing production budget

  • Plan and organize multiple projects and assign and/or delegate work to junior landscape architects and technicians

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university

  • Licensed in the State of Florida as a Registered Landscape Architect

  • 7+ years of experience under the direct supervision of a licensed landscape architect with 3 of those years of experience in the State of Florida

  • Experience in highway beautification planning, design and construction for projects by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in project management

  • Experience in performing construction administration and inspections

  • Familiar with Florida soils, cold hardiness zones and ecological communities

  • Experience in landscape design in Florida

  • Experience in streetscape and hardscape design

  • Knowledgeable in landscape maintenance planning, practices and methods for Florida

  • Experience in preparing construction cost estimates

  • Experience in irrigation design and construction

  • Experience using computer software programs, including AutoCAD, Microstation, MSOffice Word and Excel

  • Experience in preparing graphics, illustrations and renderings

Preferred Qualifications

  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist is desirable but not required

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residence status is preferred
