Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level GIS Specialist for employment in the Conshohocken, PA office. AECOM is pleased to include you in a unique development opportunity, the Graduate Development Program (GDP). The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated software to produce, display, and analyze geographic information

  • Develop and maintain databases, reports, and mapping

  • Create, organize, manipulate, and retrieve GIS data for reporting, analysis, and presentation purposes

  • Perform quality assurance of GIS data and associated graphic components

  • Will use concepts, practices and procedures to extract and provide GIS data to clients

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Create, edit, and maintain geospatial databases and metadata on multiple simultaneous projects

  • Process and analyze raster and vector geospatial data in support of clients and staff including engineers, biologists, hydrologists, and geologists

  • Use software to provide detailed and concise map-based information

  • Integrate GPS data into GIS software

  • Review data for currency, accuracy, quality, or completeness of documentation and metadata

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field. May also have a bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, or a related field with a GIS Certificate

  • Basic experience working with ArcGIS and other GIS databases

  • Knowledge of GIS fundamentals and techniques related to data manipulation, geoprocessing, data management, and capture of metadata

  • Experience using GIS to present location-specific results, such as chemical data, and ability to professionally display map data in accordance with engineering standards

  • Knowledge of geographic coordinate systems/projections and how these are manipulated in GIS

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cartographic design and production concepts

  • Ability to collect, manage, process, and map environmental data with a geographic component

  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience

  • Willingness to learn new software and remain current on ESRI products and updates

  • Ability to organize, manage, and display environmental data in a clear, concise manner, and to work cooperatively with several project managers and technical staff on simultaneous project assignments

  • A valid driver’s license required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with GIS production environments

  • Completion of 40 Hr. HAZWOPER course

  • Trimble GPS units or similar

  • Wetland delineation knowledge

  • Environmental mapping

  • Chemistry knowledge

  • Database knowledge (EQuIS, MS Access)

  • Linear mapping projects
